And when should I come? to select from. Although the Kauai waterfalls were really watery and verdant, we had to lower our expectation of a Kauai canyon. Whilst the islet had countless waterfalls, most of them were either impenetrable, requiring challenging adventure or were on privately owned property.

Then there were some waterfalls that needed a serious climb to get the best prospects that were not accessible from the offical viewpoints (like the Wailua Falls and the Opaeka'a Falls). It was the ultimative catch-22 for fans of waterfalls like us - either to collect funds to see them, or to settle for a fistful of waterfalls, with the sense that we somehow failed.

We group Kauai waterfalls into three major areas - North Kauai, East Kauai and West and Central Kauai for the purpose of this website. The North Kauai included the waterfalls we could see in the Kilauea and Princeville areas, such as the Queen's Bath Waterfalls. We also include the waterfalls we have seen on the Na Pali coast (like the Hanakapiai Falls) as they were accessed from this area.

East-Kauai was the place where most of the development took place. East Kauai was therefore right in the center of the resulting "reverse C", as it would get transport from its ends. So Julie and I came across most of the most famous waterfalls on the whole archipelago, like Wailua Falls.

West and Central Kauai include Waimea Canyon and the inland areas of the islands (at least by land), Mt. In fact, self-drive waterfalls were very difficult to find, as Waipoo Falls was perhaps the only "comfortable" cascade you could see.

There' are a few waterfalls on this tiny little peninsula that have cracked our Top 10 Hawaii Waterfalls list. Although the number of waterfalls we were able to see was mitigated by various limitations, as you can see from the table below, we were still able to see some of the remaining waterfalls.
