American Samoa Governor demands better communication in emergencies | American Samoa

Government Lolo Matalasi Moliga has demanded improvement of US Samoa contingency comunication. It says that emergencies need to be communicated better in a time of catastrophe. In an interview with Puleleiite Tufele Liamatua Jr., head of the American Samoa Telecommunications Authority, Lolo said that it was important to maintain effective first aid channels not only for the local authorities but also for other first-aiders.

It invited the Executive Vice President to make sure that improvement is made.

Former Governor of American Samoa, Frank Barnett, is dying.

Born in Knoxville, Frank Barnett, the former Governor of American Samoa, was always looking for the next one. Frank lived an astonishing way of thinking there was no apology for boredom," it says. Mr. Barnett, 82, passed away Friday. In 1950, a Knoxville High scholar, Mr. Barnett went to the University of Tennessee, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and completed his UT legal education in 1959.

Initially working as a specialist for the FBI before becoming a founder associate of the Baker, Worthington, Barnett and Crossley firms, his professional life finally took a more politically oriented turn. Between 1975 and 1977, Mr Barnett was Lt-Governor and Governor of American Samoa, to which he was named by President Gerald Ford.

Further achievements include supporting China's participation as an exhibit at the 1982 World Fair in Knoxville, assisting in the establishment of the Tennessee Center for International Studies in Knoxville, and working as General of the United States Agency for International Education in Kandahar, Afghanistan, where he was part of a sustainable research program on drinking and waste management, developing infrastructures, and financing a new faculty of jurisprudence in 2010.

Mr. Barnett is outlived by his bride Carolyn, two kids and a sibling.

American Samoa Governor names Mafi Sione Lousiale Lotolua Kava as his Tongan liaison officer.
