When we were thinking about our honeymoon, we were reading a great deal that Waikiki is one of the most pricey areas in Oahu, Hawaii. But we found out that there is a great deal to do in Waikiki, and not all of them are as pricey as you might think. Waikiki has always been associated in the public fantasy with stunning ocean shores, stunning Pacific views and wonderful herbalists.

From Hilton Village to Kapi'olani Park, the 2 mile long beach is known as Waikiki Beach. Due to random cementing and degradation, these shores have almost vanished. Today's sands come from Papohaku Beach, on the near-by Moloka'i Isle.

First on the Waikiki things to do is to go to these beautiful sands. You' ll be amazed that the entrance to the sea is completely free! If you want to get to these beautiful sandy areas, the best way to get there is to arrive early in the morning: you will usually see a jogger or a group of dogs for a walk.

So we asked ourselves if it was really Waikiki or Ibiza. But in the evening the Waikiki beach becomes more habitable. Climbing up there to watch the sun set over the ocean might be a good notion. Some of the most wonderful places we could not have lived in Waikiki (for ourselves):

Situated on the other side of Hilton Hawaiian Village, Kahanamoku Beach is sheltered by a breakwaters and has a wonderful body of seaweed. National Waikiki Beach - This was our first appearance with the chic Waikiki we had so much of. Arriving in Waikiki, we walked across Kalakaua Avenue from our motel, and then next to the Royal Hawaiian Hotell we walked through a small street full of surf boards.

That'?s the Waikiki my man and I will always be remembering! Since this beautiful part of the coast is really overcrowded during the afternoon, I suggest to enjoy it at sundown, when the tourist depart, for a beautiful barefooted stroll on the warmer sands. Kapi'olani Park - Most of this part of the Central Waikiki Park, much less overcrowded, is Queen's Surf Bath.

You' ll find shower and toilet facilities, and the stunning views of Diamond's Head are just an extra plus. Near the eponymous garden, when we chose to go sunbathing there, we always had a good picknick on the lawn in the garden, without having to go around to find one.

The Sans Souci Park - Another of our favourite sandy spots, next to the New Otani Kaimana Hotel. We never found large numbers of people here: it is perhaps the most popular among the local people, probably because it is away from the tourist population. It has a wonderful snorkelling spot with flat water and a wonderful sandy area.

Since we fell in Love with aquaria, we had to make reference to a trip to the area. Outside, it is also possible to welcome some of Hawaii's black seal, another endangered fish. Kapi'olani is, as already stated, a popular garden next to a nice sandy area.

This is the biggest (and one of the oldest) parks in Hawaii, devoted to Queen Kapi'olani, wife of King David Kalakaua. The area was obviously neglected before the construction of the reserve. As we don't like Zoo's, we've chosen to concentrate on the outdoors: this is a very favourite place for runners and outdoors athletes.

On Sunday afternoon, free gigs with the Royal Songwriting Band and the Royal Songwriting Band are often held at the Kapi'olani Bandstand with classic pieces from the monarchic period. Queen Kapi'olani Garden also had the right to be included in the Waikiki activity census.

Situated in Kapi'olani Parc, a free botanic orchard open daily. and we used to love our strolls in this area. They are the ideal place to get away from the Mayhem of Waikiki. There are not many visitors here because so many of them are only interested in the beach. So if you're a big fans of films and TV shows like us, you need to include a trip to Kualoa Ranch in your roster of things to do in Waikiki.

The Kualoa Ranch also offers a Kualoa Ranch Kualoa Ranch Family" Foodie-Tour" with transfer from Waikiki by own vehicle, chopper or bus to enjoy a meal of typical Hwaiian dishes with regional cuisine. When you have a smaller household, I suggest you take the next stage of this 10 things in Waikiki.

Diamond Head, probably the most prominent O'ahu icon, is the scenery of Waikiki and the prosperous Kahala district. You can take wonderful panorama pictures of the Pacific and Waikiki with its golden sand beaches from above. Waikiki U-boat Trip lasts about one hours and can be ordered through the company's website.

National Geographic describes this trip as one of Waikiki's most intriguing pursuits, allowing you to explore the area' s deeps and see the underwater world. But we couldn't keep it out of our Waikiki activity schedule! You' ll see colourful Hwaiian fish, coral, races and tortoises in their native habitats, but not only.

You must be at the Hilton Pier in front of Hilton, even if you bought your tickets on-line at least half an minute before boarding. We wanted to include another free thing in the Waikiki activities list: the Waikiki firework display.

Each Friday night around 7:45 pm you can see a firework display of the Hilton Hawaiian Village in the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon (have you seen the large edifice with a shower at the side in the Waikiki SkyLine? Just walked over a little early to find a place on the shore that wasn't too full.

When you want to be pampered on a 52-foot cruising boat, you can include a Spirit of Aloha in your Waikiki activities itinerary. Sailing along the Waikiki coastline, our guests can enjoy a luncheon or evening meal with everything to enjoy and a welcome spoon.

If it weren't enough, there are cruise ships every Friday night in the evening to watch the firework display of a boat with a tapa meal with a choice of local, Asian and mainland cuisine. Acknowledged as the "Heart of Waikiki", this great vessel is worthy of a place of honour in this prestigious Waikiki Classification.

It was so nice that from our first days in Waikiki we never lost the opportunity to take a long stroll here when the light went down. It is about one nautical miles long and running alongside the shore. At night there is always "luau", an often free show, from tiki dances to fire shows, from ukulelele performers (a typical guitars from Hawaii ) to small shows that celebrate Polish music.

A further free of charge activities in this listing of activities in Waikiki is to discover some of the most attractive and "old" Waikiki properties. Moana is situated in what was once a very prestigious district for the Hawaiian royal family and the economic powerhouses of these isles. Try a guide or discover the inner city with old photos and memories of your stay in a nearby city.

The Royan is another imposing historic monument, an Art Deco structure with Moorish-style spires and archways from 1927. There are no entrance fees and you can visit the beautiful garden that once housed the Ka'ahumanu Queen's holiday residence. So if you like to shop like us, take a look at Waikiki's biggest retail centre, which mainly has major brand names, but also typical Hwaiian stores such as Crazy Shirt and Honolua Surf Co, or banana, which uses the banana to make cake, icecream and lactos.

Little Bawaiian Craft Shop offers small wooden sculptures, wooden shells and Ni'ihau shell chains. For some Waikiki memorabilia, do it here, because the qualitiy is much better than on the Waikiki International Market. So what do you think of this long line of things you can do in Waikiki?
