Tongarewa's Papa Tongarewa is New Zealand's New Zealand Te Papa Musée in Wellington. It was opened in 1998 after the merger of the Te Papa and Nationalgalerie. Te Papa's first forerunner was the Colonial Muzeum, established in 1865 with James Hector as its founder-manager.

It was the first nomination of a full-time New Zealand Fine Arts Galleries Manager. Te Papa's headquarters are located on the water front in Wellington, Cable Street.
It also includes outside areas with man-made caverns, indigenous shrubs and marshlands. Technopapa was created by Jasmax Architects[19] and constructed by Fletcher Construction. It was lifted onto a number of railway trucks and moved 200 meters by car to a new location, where it is now the hotel of the Museums.
Its History is also home to the New Zealand Post Archive with around 20,000 postage and related artefacts and the Pacific Selection with around 13,000 historical and modern artefacts from the Pacific Islands. It has important fossil and archaeozoological holdings; a herbal ( "WELT") of about 250,000 dry specimens; a reptile and mammal reptile library of about 70,000 New Zealand bird specimens; and important amphibian, reptilian and mammalian specimens.
