Kauai's résumé of blockbusters is the only one of the worlds tropic theatres. Only six inches from the western shore, it is hard to understand why Kauai has been Hollywood's southern hinterland since the first filming of the 1933 series. Cauai has it all on Hollywood's checklist: sandy whitewash shores, luxuriant rain forests, gorgeous coasts, spectacular falls, spectacular views, clear blues, tranquil streams and lovely year-round soils.

Kauai's fascination and long story as a film venue is documented in a 128-page illustrated volume published by the Wilcox Hospital Foundation with the support of the Kauai Film Commission.

Posted by Chris Cook and illustrated by David Boynton, the volume was released by Mutual Publishing of Honolulu in November 1996. AIan Palermo photography Kauai beaches to Na Pali coast

On his last Kauai holiday, our long-time photographer and friendly Alan Palermo was struck by the magnificent rocks of the famous Na Pali coast. Looking out over the 4,000-foot peaks over Hanakapiai Beach, Alan is deeply rooted in Hawaii' civilization and drawn to the beauties of this jagged cliff.

While staying at Whalers Cove near Poipu Beach, Alan used the location by the sea to catch the uniqueness of the Isle. Today we are proud to present a selection of Alan's work on the Na Pali Coast from a collection of Kauai Beach and Kauai Sundowns.

It all began as a pastime for Alan and has developed into a new shop for the people living in Southern California. AIan is living near the shore and often goes there at the end of the dai. He has also added landscape and animal photos from his journeys and backpacker trips to his collection.
