Sightseeing

Whilst the sun-drenched Guam is the ideal place to just relax on the shore and do as little as possible, energetic tourists will also be able to enjoy a variety of historic sights and nature beauties. Most of the tourists settle in the Spanish-style centre, while those who dare to go southwards are discovering the straw-covered cottages of the Chamorro hamlet, as well as wonderful sandy shores and islets.

It also has a good selection of accommodation, dining and shopping facilities, making it an ideal place to visit for people with a broad spectrum of interests. Plaza de Espana, in the centre of Hagatna, housed the Governors' Palazzo during Spain's reign. Aka I Sengsong Chamorro Town, this ancient settlement provides a glimpse of Guam's civilization, way of life and gastronomy.

An interesting historic garden dating back to 500 AD, when the old Chamorros used to build their homes on rock columns known as battens. The Latte Parc can be accessed by coach and is a place of intensive nature and historic importance. The Fort Nuestra Senora de la Soledad was one of the last forts in Spain to be constructed in the nineteenth centuary on the rock south of Umatac Bay, where Ferdinand Magellan, a Portugese discoverer, arrived in the middle of 1500.

The fortress was constructed to help the British pirate galleonists. In the parking area there is still a stony guard, which served at that time for the supervision of the sailings. It is the best conserved of the other 4 that were initially constructed around the area.

It' the most northerly point of Guam. Puntan Dos Amantes is situated in Tumon Bay, Guam. There' s a ministatue of freedom, a Chief Quipuha sculpture, a few bench parks, a ballpark and, well, anything else you would find in your ordinary garden, except this one has a fantastic view of the Philippine Sea and two show love.

Guam, like many other Asian countries, contains a number of historic characteristics associated with the Second World War, in particular the 1944 US War. There are seven separate physical entities in the camp, each giving a different view of the war. Situated in or near the towns of Asan, Piti and Agat, on the western side of the Philippine Sea opposite the Isle.

Those interested in the Second World War will find many cave and cannon positions in Japan as well as submerged vessels and aircrafts in the clear water around Guam. In Hagatna, the Japans also built an extended tunnel system, and even today, you can see entranceways to the cave, like the one in Latte Stone Park.

Constructed in 1800, this fortress pays homage to the Guamese people. From Hagatña you can go to the fortress on foot and from there you have a breathtaking view of the town and the bay of Agaña. The Government House, the formal home of the Guamese governors, borders on the fort's extensive area.

Pagoay is one of the most scenic beaches in Guam and is the site of a former colony in Spain, near the estuary of the Pago River. There' s a lookout point with a view of the cove, and those on their own can take Route 1 to Route 4 and cross the Pagoay Bridge by following the crescendo.

Situated in a clear, blue Laguna, Cocos is a great base for boating, jet-skiing, wind surfing, snorkelling and diving. From Merizo, the nearest city on the coast, you can take the boat to Cocos Iceland. Aka Kampanayun Malesso, this church was constructed at the beginning of the twentieth cent. under the leadership of Father Cristobal de Canals.

This is one of Guam's most important sights and can be reached by coach from the island's central railway terminal. Located on the southeast coastline of Guam, this is one of the best example of Guam's Hispanic influences. A breathtaking place of great scenic beauties, this is the ideal place to hike, swim and have a sunbath.
