Lavena, Taveuni Island, Fiji - ABCD (Australia)

The Templestowe Rotary Foundation (RCT) and the Rotary club Taveuni Island accepted this program as a guest Rotary Foundation in September 2011. Until June 2012 RCT had found patrons for 44 kids attending Lavena Primary Schule on the island of Taveuni. And a gala dinner in June 2102 brought in over $8,800 to finance a new preschool.

The Global Citizenship Program student voluntarily spent three week in Lavena to help ABCD and Rotary alumni build, teach the kids and paint some nice wall pictures on the ready-made nursery for them. Rotary District 9810 and a Rotary Foundation gift rounded out the nursery with new furnishings and studyware.

In May 2013 the second Lavena Gala Dinner took place, at which all 44 godparenthoods were extended for another year. At the end of 2012, nine of the pupils of Lavena Primary School had attended various grammar school in Taveuni, a track record that would not have been possible without the generous support of the donors!

Another $5,000 was collected for the supply of electricity to the elementary and preschool schools and the teachers' room. Last year's transfer of funding, a US$5,000 grant from the Rotary Club of Manningham, and a level of humanitarian confidence have enabled RCT to achieve the US$17,000 goal necessary to complete the plant by the end of 2013.

The Lavena Coastline Hike & Waterfalls - Review of Lavena Coastline and Fiji, Taveuni Island

There are people who rent a tour leader, but it is simple to take the coastline road that winds through luxuriant rainforest. This hike is only $35 per person - it's a reward. When you can, take a ferry up the shore, everywhere you go, falls! We' had a beautiful leader called Gabriel who's been doing this for 15 years.

Then we walked to 2 different falls and floated at the foot of the two. We walked back to Lavena on the coastal path and ended with the most unbelievable meal Gabe's woman had given us in Lavena. Around 8 o'clock in the mornings we took a cab to get to Lavena before the flood broke out, and around 14:00 o'clock we took the commute.

I' m not sure you have a leader. When not, the path is very easily found and without a leader easily mastered. Used to love walking along the coastline, you can find starfishes, mussels etc. A really beautiful stroll along the coastline.

But I was happy that my mates and I didn't take a leader because it's not necessary because it's a very easy way. It is not a tiring stroll, but there is plenty of photo and exploration to do. Were you on the Lavena Coastal Walkway?
