The Morayshires reached Norfolk on 8 June 1856, where they were received by the Commissariat Storekeeper and his family. It became Bounty Sunday, also known as Jubilee Sunday, and is commemorated every year by the Norfolk Island population. Bounty on June 8, 2018 will be the 162nd birthday of the Pitcairn Islanders' return to Norfolk Island.

Of course, the Pitcairners were the offspring of the notorious British mutineers on the Bounty and the Tahitians, who began a new lease of humanity on the island of Pitcairn under their guide Fletcher Christian. When Pitcairn grew up, the group of eight families moved to Norfolk Island, where their offspring are now living.

This is a great way to experience the Norf'k civilization, represented by the indigenous languages (a mixture of Tahiti and Old English), food, handicrafts and traditions. First the islanders in their traditonal "Bounty"-clothes recreate the 1856 landings at Kingston Pier. The graveyard of the island is at the end of the Quality Row and here the kids lay a flower on the tombs of the members of the family, while they sing folk music.

It is a conscious reminder of "where they come from," because Bounty Day is all about commemorating the legacy with the "family" at the center. The assessment of the best clothed group is always a good-humored and controversial one! Maybe the heart of Bounty Day is the collective picknick with a surprising variety of local cuisine!

The island dances and musicians also enter when the celebratory part of the daily routine really begins. Both the kids and the grown-ups are enjoying the'Bounty Ball' during the whole working days, wearing their best costumes, waltzes and barns dances at noon. They are always welcome to attend during the days and are invited to accompany the parade from Kingston Pier to the cemetery.
