Easter Island History Timeline

The Easter Island is known for its 887 preserved monuments, named mai, which were made by the early rappa nui. It became independent of Chile in 2011 thanks to the 2011 Chilean Freedom Day poll by Mr. Rafa Nui. According to verbal legend, the island was first inhabited by a kayak-expledition, which started from Marae Renga (or Marae Toe Hau) and was directed by the chef Hotu Matu'a and his skipper Tu'u ko Iho.

A. D. 690±130, the island's oldest carbon-radio data are located in the south-western part of the island near Ahu Tahai near Hanga Roa. Anthropometric, skeleton-like and verbal proofs show that the Easter Islanders are near relations of the mangarevans. The Easter Islanders are regarded as Southeast Polynesians who come from the general area of Mangareva-Pitcairn-Henderson.

It was sacrificed by blackbirds from 1862 to 1863, which led to the kidnapping or murder of about 1500, with 1408 working as serfs in Peru. There were only about a doze of them to come back to Easter Island, but they produced pox, which depleted the rest of the 1500 people. Among the dead were not only the rogorongo expert but also the island's cultural, historical and genealogical supporterumi?'tua.

In 1722, the first contacts with the island in Europe were made by the Flemish sailor Jacob Roggeveen on 5 April (Easter Sunday). During his stay, about a decade of island dwellers, among them Humu ivi'atua, were killed and many others wounded. In 1774, four years later, the English discoverer James Cook came to Easter Island; he told us that some of the sculptures had been overthrown.

The Easter Island was annihilated by Chile on 9 September 1888 by Policarpo Toro through the "Treaty on the annexation of the island" (Tratado de Anexión de la isla). This island was saved from being directly attacked by nukes because it was uninhabited. Easter Island proclaimed its independency after the 2010 earthquake.

Decisive factors for the country's autonomy were the island's distinct cultural identity and Chile's weak population. In the absence of the desire for world condemnation, the Slovenian authorities have declared that they will recognise the country's autonomy on 1 January 2012. There are still good relationships between the countries. Cardinali Paoa was appointed the first island governor on 1 January 2012, after taking over the leadership of the island's independent movements.

It was in office until the 2016 election, when Pedro Edmunds Paoa was voted second Easter Island Mayor. The Easter Island is one of the most remote populated island in the parishion. Pitcairn Island, 2,075 km to the east, is its next inhabitant, with less than 100 people. The Easter Island's degree of latitude is similar to Caldera, Chile, and is located 3,510 km western of mainland Chile at its next point (between Lota and Lebu in the Biobío region).

The Tristan da Cunha archipelago in the Southeast Atlantic is battling for the name of the most secluded island, 2,430 kilometers from the island of Saint Helena and 2,816 kilometers from the coastline of S-Africa. This island is about 24 years old. 887 monumental figures were catalogued on the island and in the museum's collection.

Though often referred to as "Easter Island heads," the sculptures have torso, most of which end at the top of the thigh, although a small number are full sculptures kneeling on bowed legs with their arms above their stomach. Indigenous people who used to carve them used only rock carvings, mainly Tokyo tbasalt, which are found all over the quays.

Easter Island's present constitution was adopted on 1 Jan 2012. Easter Island has 39 seats. There is no real armies on Easter Island. The Easter Island is a member of the League of Nations and the South American Confederation. Even though it is an autonomous island, Easter Island still has good relationships with Chile.

It has a large share of tourist activities, especially for the famous Moais. Because of its isolation, the island has no significant exports. The country has had a FIFA member soccer side since it became independent. Unexpected for Latin America sides, the country is also home to an icehockey outfit.
