17 EU blacklists name 17 jurisdictions and make Caymans and Jersey known | Business

On its first black list of blacklists of tax havens, the EU has put 17 and another 47 embarrassed and on the list, among them the UK OCTs and the Isle of Man and Guernsey crowns dependency to curb the 506 billion pounds of money that are being wasted each year by violent evasive manoeuvres.

This was celebrated as an important "first step", but the Member States' lack of agreement on penalties for those on the black list prompted the EU Commission for Economics and Finance, Pierre Moscovici, to admit that this was "an inadequate response". Blacklists include South Korea, Mongolia, Namibia, Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

Guam, the US Pacific territories, is also on the Blacklisted, which Brussels is unlikely to like in Donald Trump's White House. EU stated that they had not adapted to meet global norms and had not made enough pledges to alter their course in the month before the release of the census.

Out of the territories with ties to the UK - Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man - a so-called "grey list" has been put in place that has pledged to change its fiscal structure, for example to make sure that companies do not just use their 0% corporation income taxes to sneak in.

The UK authorities are believed to have tried to have these tribunals rejected rather than reviewed by EU taxation specialists. The only blacklisted nation that made no attempt at all to communicate with EU taxation specialists on the EU Council's COC when questions were put to the country's governor.

Other blacklisted: Samoa, Barbados, Grenada, Macau, the Marshall Islands, Palau, St. Lucia, Samoa and Tunisia. This black list is combined with EU law so that the affected states are not considered for funding from the block, except for those on the subject of overseas assistance. It is up to the EU to ensure that gray -listed government meets its obligations or is placed on the gray-listed.

"It' s a disappointment to see that UK FTAs and koruna dependency are listed by the EU as'on notice' in its black list of jurisdictions. As early as April, the UK authorities said they would demand offshore areas and the koruna dependency to establish registries of economic property which would be available to HMRC.

In the same way that the UK registry of economic owners has been accused of lacking some businesses to take in, we see here a case of incorrect transposition by the UK authorities and a failure of politicians to prevent evasion.
