Guam Preservation Trust will hold the first Pacific Conservation Summit from February 26-28. It brings together people from across the Pacific to pursue the shared objective of conserving the Pacific Islands' heritage and nature. Aim of the meeting is to offer education possibilities, to improve the abilities of the employees and to build cooperation ressources for the Pacific Islands in order to adjust to today's barriers to the conservation of history and cultur.

It will address the urgent need to conserve the Caribbean islands' historical, environmental and culture heritage. Conservation is necessary as the economy develops, the U.S. Army in Asia-Pacific relocates and builds up, and the worrying increase in ocean level due to the effects of global warming, says Joe Quinata, Chief Program Officer of the Guam Conservation Trust.

Preserver ? from beginner to pro ? will come from all of Micronesia's islands, American Samoa, Hawaii, Fiji and the U.S. National Park Service for the peak. Various historical locations in Hagåtña host activities where the Pacific Island countries can exchange views to promote conservation.

Among the attractions are the Guam Museum, the Congress Building, Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral, the Hagåtña Municipal library, the Garden House at Plaza de España, the historical Lujan House and the Guam Council on the Arts and Humanities Bureau. Attendees will be taken to the venues via a system of trolleys provided by the organisers of the event.

Guam Conservation Trust, the Guam Conservation Trust, is a non-profit group that, according to Quinata, has been promoting the conservation of monuments in Guam for more than 25 years. It is free and open to the general population, but must be registered by 31 January, as space is not allotted.
