Which are the main characteristics of this school that influence the students' study? T?n? koutou te kura o Okiwi. The Okiwi School is a small elementary school on the Great Barrier Island (Aotea) and is aimed at pupils in grades 1 to 8. Twothirds of the pupils identified themselves as M?ori and many are associated with Ng?ti Wai ki Aotea and Ng?ti Rehua.

It works in close cooperation with wh?nau of the two school. The majority of fiduciaries are new to their roles as school directors. It is the Board's goal to work with co-workers and the municipality to ensure that pupils are well equipped for the times when they are leaving the island to go to high school.

In the course of the years, the school population changes as some parents move away from the island to find work or to allow their kids to go to secondary school. We work with Department of Conservation employees on a number of regional development sites and with the outdoor tracking center near the school. Pupils are educated in two class rooms, Ruma Teina (grades 1 to 3) and Ruma Tuakana (grades 4 to 8).

There are three instructors and two teachers' assistants who, with the help of local voluntary workers, offer a wide range of curricula for the schoolchildren. School' mindset is a solid basis on which school cultures are based. The Tuakana / Teeina relationship is clearly shown in supporting interaction between older and younger pupils. Older pupils have management positions within the school.

To what extent does this school use performance information to positively change learners' commitment, advancement and performance? Instructors use a broad variety of evaluation instruments to assess how well pupils learn in literacy and math. All the information they have gathered shows that the pupils are doing well.

Pupils' progression is carefully observed and pupils attending school usually make up ground within the first two years. Even though the pupils sometimes go to school by ferry and on curvy dirt tracks, the number of visitors is satisfying. The commitment of the pupils at school is high. Fiduciaries are provided with performance information analysis reporting that enables them to track curricular efficiency and distribute education assets adequately.

They show how families can help their kids learn at home. The ERO now advises educators to describe the abilities, insights and beliefs they are hoping to evolve before leaving Okiwi school.
