Created by vulcanic activities, the Cook Islands are spread out in the South Pacific, north-east of New Zealand. Though it is a self-governed insular territory, the Cook Islands are in free associations with New Zealand. There are 15 islands in the Cook Islands, subdivided into the Cook Islands north and the Cook Islands of the Korallenatolle. In general, the Cook Islands have a very pleasant and relaxing environment. First populated by Polynesians from Tahiti, it was renamed after James Cook, the English discoverer who first discovered it in 1773. The Cook Islands became a UK patronage in 1888, but in 1901 it was incorporated into the borders of the New Zealand colony, and since then they have divided a official relation.

One of Avarua's landmarks, Rarotonga is the wreck of Matai. The Catholic St. Joseph's Cathedral is another attraction in Avarua. It is the parent of the Catholic diocese of Rarotonga and is responsible for the Cook Islands and its neighbouring Niue. The fair is held in both English and Cook Island Maori, so you can choose which languages you want to communicate with.
