It has been used for many years, from the deforestation of large parts of the island's forests, transforming them into functioning bovine herds, to the extermination of whales from Kapiti Island, to the end of the world in 1800. Kapiti Island is now the shrine that our ancestors had planned in the 1890s.

Cape Island is home to some of our old favourites, such as the naughty Cheeka - the villain of the shrub, who would like to rob you of your lunches if Mr. Kaka, our pretty little bird, has not already scourged it. A part of this village was the comeback of Kapiti Island to Ngati Toa Rangitane.

Between Kapiti Island and the continent, the water was once travelled by the Rangitane and Muaupoko rivermen, and later by Te Rauparaha of Ngati Toa, who dominated Kapiti in 1823. Convinced of a vision, she went on her way with her subsidiary from Kapiti to alert on land to an imminent ally.

Well-known as " moorongonui " or "famous island" for pre-European M?ori, a number of strains have used kapiti. In the 1830s Kapiti was the capital of the famed Te Rauparaha and still a strategical place for warfare on M?ori. However, at that point the island was divided with Europe's whaling communities.

Ships began to call in 1827, and when trading reached its peak in the mid-1830s, there were five fishing spots on the island: See what New Zealand must have been like over 100 years ago. On the way to Kapiti Island you drive through the Kapiti Marine Reserve and observe cetaceans.

At the guesthouse our leader will speak about the bird life you are likely to see and the state of the threatened and newcomers. The majority of the bird life and the magnificent wood are below 250 metres. Kapiti Island is a great place to go for a stroll and observe the birdlife at your own speed or just enjoy a beautiful outing.

After joining the New Zealand police force in 2000 and returning to the country after 16 years as Detective and Detective Sergeant to settle in New Zealand and enjoy everything Kapiti Island has to offer. Well, that's what Kapiti Island is all about. I' m passionate about storytelling the people of Kapiti Island and providing a world-class learning outreach.

He also worked as an assistant ranking officer on Matiu Sommes and Kapiti Island. For over 5 years Brenda has been leading on Kapiti Island. He has a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Victoria University and his early careers focus on oceanology at Fisheries Research, NIWA and work in the fishing industry.

As a Kapiti Island leader, Dave sees his leadership position as the ideal mix of work and interests and looks forward to share his experience on Kapiti Island with the world.
