Located in the Pacific Ocean, more than 17,000 km from its home state, French Polynesia is an area as large as Europe but thinly inhabited (less than 300,000 inhabitants). The Pacific Experimentation Centre's activities between 1962 and 1996 meant that the Polish industry had to find a new way after the end of the atomic tests.

However, the fragmented nature of its land and its geographic isolation isolates it from the large French market and from France, which hinders its activities. Polynesia also has great potential: a huge area of 5.5 million km2 and enormous tourism opportunities. And not to forget the bluefin tuna economy: although fisheries (protected by a huge EEZ ) and pearls growing have already proved their value, the marine resources are not yet exhausted.

The EIB works with the civil and community sector to promote the economy, society and the environment by using appropriate instruments such as credits, sureties and counsel.
