Activities in Fakarava

Fakarava Top Choice beach. International Lagon Bleu (Motu Tehatea) in Fakarava. Sunday service in Rotoava. Were you in Fakarava this weekend? Dive in Avatoru Pass.

The most important activities in Fakarava

PK10.5 is the end of the unpaved path, right at the border of the spectacular Garuae mountain range. Due to arriving or departing currents, the passes become very rugged, with ripples that can slightly over 2m in the centre of the passes. This is a very comfortable place for lunches, the family-run event is located directly on the outskirts of the blue coloured lake and conjures up delicious, yet plain dishes as well as plenty of traditional dishes such as panini and sandwhiches (from 350 CFP).

You can stop for fruits and veggies at this street stand in the town of Rotoava.

10 activities in Rangiroa & Fakarava

The solid Rangiroa and Fakarava pearls, like huge pearls hovering in the sea, are like nothing you have ever seen before. While I was traveling across the South Pacific Islands in my backpack, I spend almost two week discovering the biggest plains in Polynesia. Here is my private schedule of the main activities in Rangiroa and Fakarava.

You will find guidebooks to 11 isles, with example programs and many travelling hints and trips. Were you in Fakarava this week? Outside the white painted cathedral reeks of heaven - outside a giant horticultural flower, inside the coral and mussels from the near lake are used for the decor.

At Rangiroa you bike from passport to passport, from Tiputa to Avatoru. On the way, stop for snorkelling, take a free bead farming trip at Gauguin's Pearl and head to the archipelago's "largest" town - Avatoru. Fakarava has much more room for everyone and you can drive all days without seeing more than a few coaches.

To the north of Rotoava is the PK9 sandy area ('wait for number 3'), while just a few miles away just down the southern side of the town, there are vast expanses of coir plantation and rugged sandy areas crushed by the sea breeze. The Avatoru Pass in Rangiroa separates the town of Avatoru from the vineyard of corals that grows on the opposite river and does not bring as many scuba diver down the street as its big brother, but the powerful silvertipped shark likes to eat breakfasts here every daily.

Hold on to a reef as the currents pull you into the sea and keep your eye open for the beast! Rangiroa and Fakarava both have their version of the'blue lagoon', but Rangiroa is destined to be outside this one. This is a full moon trip to dreamlike uninhabitated isles, smooth sandy beach and clear water.

There are only four couples living in the isolated Tetamanu Town. More than an hours from Rotoava by ferry, the town would probably have been long gone if it hadn't been located on the famous Tumakohua Passport, better known as the Southern Part. It is powered by photovoltaic and windpower, and you can leave your Wi-Fi behind.

This was the principal town of the Atolls, with the oldest temple in the group. Like the' Blauen Lagune' there are also in Fakarava some sandy spots with rose sands. However, none is as nice (or famous) as the one not too far from the town of Tetamanu.

The corals are sound and the view is usually sooooo much better than elsewhere. When there are still lexicons and they have an item for'Dream Beach', it will probably contain a PK9 Beaches image in Fakarava. Only nine kilometres from Rotoava you probably have this beautiful sandy spot all to yourself.

Hard-core scuba diver from all over the world meet on this small and low water passage in Rangiroa. But for me it was the best to be accompanied by young porpoises that ride the sea under our little zodiak in the comfort of the water.

Although not as well known as Rangiroa Dive, there are still a few years until the Garuae Passport, better known as the'North Pass', is the best place in Polynesia for Dive. Imagine driving through a reef with unbelievably sane corals of all forms, colours and sizing.

Throughout you and in the dark blues hundrets of shark patrolling in quest of dinner for you. At the end of the reef you start riding the currents and return to the Laguna like Superman. Rangiroa and Fakarava's main activities.
