Squeaking tires, the scent of oils and jubilant masses of people make this place an exciting place for the gasoline head among us and with the Drag Way only a few moments away from the street, and the beloved Huntly Speedway also in the north of Waikato, there is something for all motorsport fans. Mercer is a must for dairy fans on the Hamilton-Auckland trip.

Visiting his dairy is one of the best activities in the north of Waikato if you are looking for cuisine. Connoisseurs stop here regularly, attracted by the award-winning delicacies of Albert Alferink at Mercer-Cheese. Among the locals' favorites are Gouda, Edam, Gouda cheeses, Edam cheeses with herbs and goats and the famous Viennese softsie.

In the 1980' Albert brought cheesemaking to perfection and the delicious aromas of his produce make Mercer cheeses an indispensable allure. Hakarimata Scenic Reserve, near Ngaruawahia, 10 km north-west of Hamilton in the North Waikato area, is a great place to see the magnificent New Zealand Kaiuri tree and enjoy a breathtaking view of the area.

Embedded in the Hakarimata Mountains, the reservation offers some of the best Waikato hikes. Hike along the Hakarimata Kauri Loop Trail to a forest full of magnificent indigenous tree groves, escorted by chirping chirps from our heads by our beloved tail-tips, take the Hakarimata Summit Trail, a three-hour stroll to the top of the mountains, or take the 60-minute 60km waterwork trail back to the 1922 dyke.

The 30-minute Hakarimata Rail Trail, a simple 1.5-km-long, pram and wheelchair accessible walk and cycle path following the former Ngaruawahia/Glen Massey line, is also a must. Nikau Caves, on a privately owned ranch in the centre of North Waikato, New Zealand, is full of storactites, storagmites and fireflies that sparkle like starry nights.

The small township of Pokeno is located just 50 km south-east of Auckland in the north Waikato area and is famous for its fat and giant icecream. The Pokeno is considered the largest icecream in New Zealand - 15 delicacies are available for those who think they can make it, although share with a good pal is a good one.

One of the most beloved shops, it specializes in a wide variety of local produce, from hand-made ham and speck to delicious cold cuts. Pokeno Country Market, which takes place every Sunday, is also a favorite North Waikato venue.
