We have just returned from the best holiday at Sheraton Samoa Beach! Remember that if an argument led to blows, you would be the second best. In the 19th c. a short golden fever gave the name to the sand dunes - golden was extracted from the sand of the bath.

In order to reach the reserve, you drive on a small dirt track, where it is forbidden to use a trailer and motorhomes may not be longer than 24' long or 8' broad. Trinidad is one of the most dramatic and unspoilt parts of the California Coastal National Monument Gateway - an area that provides the best opportunity to explore and see rocks and islets off the California Coastal and its people. Luftholtz County Park 2 Leagues Sout of Trinidad on Dr. Schenic northbound to Trinidad, take the Trinidad slip road.

Drive westwards on Main St. and then turn lefthand onto Dr. Sceneic. Follow Dr. Sceneic for 2 mile. The Luffenholtz Park has a wide view of the Pacific Ocean with picknick area and path to the shore. Achat Beaches Access from Patrick's Point State Park (steep path) or Big Lagoon County Park, new guests to Agate Beaches are often amazed by the vision of folks who walk slow with their heads and intensively study the floor as if they have missed a touch-lense, or of other folks who sit down and systematically sift through the pebble-bed.

In the name of the sea, the response is implicit: agate. These semiprecious transparent gems are constantly stirred up by the mighty sea and many people make it a custom to visit the beaches frequently in their quest for these rock. You can sometimes find even more valuable moonstones and jetty, as well as the more awaited shellfish, drift wood and the sporadic trawler.

However, beachcomb is only one of the main features of this long, secluded area. There' s a pristine arc at the northern end of the shore. Ebb is the best season for a trip. Cove College is a favourite sandy spot with protected waterways that are accessible safely under the right circumstances, in combination with the stunning rock and tidal pool to be explored.

Northbound on Highway 101 to Trinidad, take the Dr./Moonstone Sea slip road to Little River State Bea. Take a turn to your lefthand onto Moonstone Dr. and then a turn to your lefthand side onto Moonstone Beach Road. The Little River State Strand has sand and a wide open sand beaches. It borders the Little River to the west and Clam Park to the east, which offers campground and daytime amenities.

This small stream divides State and Moonstone Beaches, and the stream itself provides great sea and canoeing. McKinleyville 7. at McKinleyville, 5 leagues off Highway 101. Clam Park off the highway. There are very few California campsites that allow you to camp right on the shore, but Clam County Park is one of them.

Clam is a broad and long section of the shallow coast and part of a full-length sea front connected to Mad River Strand County Park to the south and the Little River State Park to the west. It' just a few mins from the centre of McKinleyville, where all your picknick, camp and sand provisions are available.

The Clam is also a place for beachcombining, clamping and angling. From Mad River County Park 5 leagues northeast of Arcata, take the western turnoff to Giuntoli Ln. and signpost. It is one of the best beaches on the Redwood Coast for picnic, beachscombing and angling. The Mad River County Park consists of two parts: one part is the sandy spot with sand and grass behind the wavy hillside, the other part is a large car park with a boating platform into the Mad river.

Only a few mile from the Pacific estuary, the flow here has a powerful effect on the tides, but even at low tides the flow is low enough to paddle either upstream or downstream for boats and boats. For the use of the shore or the boating platform there are no daily charges.

From Eureka turn westwards onto Hwy 255, crossing the Samoa Bridge; 5 leagues southwards on New Navy Base Road. Aka North Jetty. There is a start by ferry (to Humboldt Bay) and campsite possibilities. This area is ideal for shellfishing, angling and walking on the beach. It is a comfortable RV campsite, especially for OHV (Off Highway Vehicle) fans.

The Samoa Peninsula has beaches that are virtually kilometres long. The beaches are a favourite with windsurfers, hang-gliders and loneliness seekers. One of the most interesting and extraordinary places on the northern coastline is the jetty. Centrille Beach County Park Take Highway 101 southbound and take the Ferndale slip road.

From Main St., turn right onto the Ocean Ave. and drive 5 mile on Centerville Rd. to Centerville Strand. It offers easy entry to the 9 mile long seashore. The dairying businesses are located on the rugged beaches in the northern part and the precipitous rocks in the southern part. There' s a big crossing overlooking Centerville.

One of the biggest seaside communities of the Tundra Swans is located in the eel soils just south of Centerville Rd from mid-November to March. about 5 leagues from Garberville on Briceland/Shelter Cove Rd. Extreme precipitous and rocksy ground stretches to the shore. It is a small sandy area, and in some places it can disappear under rock avalanches or in cliffy places rising into the shells.

24-mile section of the Lost Coast Trail runs from Black Sands Strand (near Shelter Cove) to Mattole River, along the wild coast. It is a rough trek, not an easy stroll on the shore, and is one of the few wildlife hikes on the US coast.
