Making an Easter Island Head Costume

"This Instructable shows the entire setup for an Easter Island headdress. I was thinking about making an Easter Island hat outfit, but the prototypes ended a little blocked and there were problems with where you could put the eyes without them obviously looking like eyeholes.

It was a full revision of this original concept, which made the whole form much rounder and the whole thing much bigger. Isn' t there anything you can't do with a little paper board, some PVA adhesive and some work? Plenty of paperboard is kept together with PVA adhesive and adhesive tapes.

In this way, the top has a rock structure and a certain degree of thickness that would otherwise be difficult to copy. Billboard colours are blended with PVA to give the required color and also a little rocky sheen. PVA is also used to make the helmet a little water resistant, but if you plan to put it in a wet place, I would recommend a fast paint to make it absolutely water resistant.

One of the major shapes of the top is just a container made of paper. Do not forget to coil the pipe with the paperboard, this results in a much smoother and more even form. Slightly tapering upwards at the top of the skull, at the bottom it should be broad enough to go around the brow (with some space to save).

Also the lower part of the top is slightly tapered (this can be seen in the second picture), it was 15cm long, 70cm in the perimeter above and 65cm below. Since my startchest was not very big, I built the form out of two parts, which was very practical because it allowed you to look out of a space instead of having to make a new one.

Glue these two pieces together and allow a slit on the front of the skull to see through. Now' a good moment to punch a bullet in your skull. I' ve decided to slice mine in the back of my mind and put a little jaw in my make-up, I think it looks better that way from the front.

It' likely to contract once everything else dries, so make it big. Using a plastic pad to fill the gap between the face and my face created some tension between the two and kept the face shield quite safely on my skull.

This is a process of giving the mind a coarse form. That was another piece of cardboard stuck around the skull. Eventually I added a few extra earrings, just two ear-shaped cards fixed to both sides of the heads. It was at this point that I chose to coat my entire face with a coat of tissue and adhesive to create a strong foundation for application to the polyfill. If you screw each piece of foil into a sphere before inserting it into the adhesive, the fibers in the tissue will decompose and the adhesive can enter better.

It is much simpler to turn the face-up as you can see in the pictures. Don't be too worried when the top of the top of the screen is stuck to the work area, keep in mind that after completion it will be a long way up and only the biggest of the big ones will be able to see any mistakes that cause it.

So I can lubricate it over the faceplate without having to fear that it will be pulled down by the force of gravitation. I' ve used a small colour spatula to put it on the faceplate, don't be afraid that it looks a bit harsh, this will only enhance the effect of the stones. Keep in mind that you want the putty to be quite thin because it is quite thick when spread over the whole faceplate.

When the entire face masks are covered, it takes some drying work. When the whole screen is completely dried, you can continue with your work. I' ve used a mix of whites and blacks to get the gray tone I wanted. I' ve blended the gray color 50:50 with PVA adhesive to avoid the need to apply the masks twice.

The effect for this masks has only increased. Don't ignore to stroke the inside of the mouths and the top holes, this ensures that whatever they look like, everyone will find it difficult to see that it is basically just a paperboard pipe on the inside. Just obey these instructions and hopefully you should have a very big Easter Island hat in front of you, of course some additional optimizations in the suit can make a big impact.

So I wanted this suit to look like the shoulder and my skull had just come out of the floor and come to the dance music. Wearing a gray sweater that corresponded to the color of the scalp, I stitched some pattern train weed around the sweater to look like the weed that was raised when the scalp went away.
