Lana'i is the 6th biggest of the Hwaiian Isles and the smallest public island in the chain." Also known as Ananas Island for its past as an island-wide apple orchard. Lana'i has played an important role in recent times as the island's pinapple and sugar cane industry is phasing out.
It is the ideal place for a restful holiday, but it is also ready for exploring the unspoilt nature. Hire a car and ride up the wonderful Munro Trail surrounded by Norfolk pines and explore the panorama of the island. Lanai Island is the place to go if you are looking for peace, adventures and privacy.
Larry Ellison owns the island and has declared that he wants to make Lana'i the first commercially viable, 100 per cent verdant city. A lot of folks go to Maui and then take a shuttle to Lanai. Lana'i City is the most important city on the island, with no stoplights, shops or transport provided by a hotelier.
The majority of non-hotel and urban tourist activities can only be accessed via unpaved streets that need an all-terrain car. About 1.5 million years ago Lanai was created by the Palawai Vulcano. It is currently 140 sq. m. large. Kaunolu Point in southeastern Lanai is said to be the birth place of the contemporary rock climbing discipline started by Hwaiian soldiers who jumped from an 80-foot promontory into the sea as evidence of their daun.
