Samoa tourism in the USA must be repaired!

Samoa tourism in the USA needs a fundamental revision and the issue lies within the islands, not outside. As a matter of fact, the tourism is simply not taken so seriously by the state and the tourism industry does not see a bright side to the holidaymakers coming to the isle. Whilst Samoa has many difficulties, if it is cleared up, Samoa could become backpacking tourism.

US territory has many things that Samoa and even Fiji don't have. So what's the trouble with American Samoa Tourism? They destroy the Isle and the Goverment does not object as long as they are stockholders. If you have civil servants who are interested in dubious activities that are not environmentally sound, it is very difficult to develop a tourism industry that appeals to the public in the long run.

That is one of the reasons why the islands has been losing so much tourism to (Western) Samoa. In American Samoa, the response begins with the US Samoa administration leaving the phrase tuning behind and considering construction tourism as the main source of the country's economic development. It' better for the Samoan people of America and better for the long run destiny of the area.

So what does it take to have sustainable tourism? First thing to do is to remedy the shortage of inexpensive shelters on the isle. I' d like to see something similar to New Town in Nadi (FIji), which has a cluster of nothing but inexpensive places (dormitories) for backpack tourists.

Samoa has the nice sandy beach that nobody uses to make something like this. Somehow, somehow; they need to get cheap Hawaii to American Samoa airfare. By the end of the morning, a couple of dozens of backpack tourists who spend little on accommodation but drink all evening and eat in the restaurant will be lighter to pull than the high-end tourists who are expecting five-star hostels (none of which American Samoa has).

At the end the Samoa tourism will not be set with a sightseeing tour.
