The Waiheke Ostend Markets is a uniquely authentic shop. For about 30 years our store has been a crucible for all Waiheke residents and its many guests. It is our vision to create a fair that is a pleasant, lively, varied and interesting place for young and old from all areas of the world.
Ostendmarkt is our most important fund-raiser and the most important open house. The Ostendmarkt was founded in 1975 by the Putiki-Schule, a privately owned secondary modern educational institution, on the grounds of Don and Barbara Chapple, Hekerua Bay. Once a months on a Saturday, the Putiki school's parent organized the Ostendmarkt as a fund-raiser.
Every Saturday in the 1981/1982 season, we operated the store on a permanent basis. It is a tranquil, secure and supporting setting for all our fairgoers and stand owners. In addition, resources are provided to promote the fair, such as periodic publicity, servicing and equipping to assist all stand owners.
