In the past months, the Pacific Islands state of Samoa attracted the world's interest when it held the third United Nations International Conference on Small Islands in Apia on the principal Upole. This year' s conference focused on the sustainability issues facing small insular states and the focus was on building lasting partnership between small insular states that Samoa has been working for some years.

For the first Egyptian visit to the Samoa capitol, Apia, the visitor may not have known about the islands' wonder of nature and cultur. In fact, the Samoans are proud of themselves and their vibrant civilization. It would be great in the coming years if Apia and Samoa were recognized as an international art and heritage center for the Pacific.

Savaia Marina Reservation is one of Samoa's leading snorkeling and scuba dive sites and is proof of what good nature protection can do to conserve a sensitive eco-system. Established following a major hurricane in the early 90s on the coastline, the reservation aims to enhance the state of the seaside and maritime environments and to prevent cyclones, landfall contamination and non-sustainable trapping methods in the area.

Guests are invited to visit a wonderful town in the Savaia Maritime Biodiversity Conservation Reserve on the scenic southern shore of Upolu to see other colorful sea creatures. At Savaia, take the southern coastline road and turn towards the southwestern Upolu area, along Lefaga Bay.

The Samoan fofo was very different from Fijian bobo and the omnipresent Samoan massaging skills I was more used to. It has its origins in the Samoan tradition of cure. Situated on Main Beach Road, Matautu-Tai, the spa is open Mon to Sat - 09:00 to 19:00 and Sunday 11:00 to 19:00.

Enjoy some of the old tradition of the islands on the tranquil Manono, 3.5 km from the west end of Upolu. An uninterrupted stroll along the coast road connecting the four major towns of the isle takes two hour, unless you stop for a swim in the hot blue sea or talk to the local people along the way.

There are also a number of archeological places on Manono Iceland, such as the tomb of the 99 stones that mark the tomb of the high chieftain Vaovasa. Walking up Mount Tulimanuiva in the centre of the archipelago will unveil another place, the ancient Star Hill. Capture a trip on one of the small craft sailing to the isle.
