If you are a lover of the countryside, you can explore the jungles, the waterfalls and the outdoor pools while you explore the luxuriant Waimea valley. Hawaiians have always found this a holy place and today it provides a verdant, fruitful harbour on the busy north coast. The Waimea Bay Beach Park is a must for those who enjoy the sandy beaches between their feet.

Situated at the beginning of the Waimea valley at the estuary of the stream, this wonderful sandy spot protects it dramatically from the winds. Over the years its ridge has been the site of chanceles and army facilities, and today people often walk up the craters to get an impressive view of Oahu. This walk is easy for most people to follow, although you might want to take a torch with you, as some parts of the trip take you through darker areas.

This Oahu example is the most popular of four casts of the sculpture (two on Big Iceland and one in Washington, DC), and the one decorated with flamboyant silk on King Kamehameha Day (each June 11). On a high point in the Koolau Range (the hills that separate Oahu from the remainder of the island) is a vantage point that provides an excellent view of the area.

Waimea Valley on the north coast is one of the last partly untouched Ahupuaas (Land Division) on Oahu and is made up of 1,875 hectares of archeological site, a 150 hectare botanic park, a cascade and several indigenous and threatened aviaries.

For more than 700 years, the Vale has been a holy place in Hawaii' riches. Recently they have started providing accompanied walks that are among the best there is. 9:00 - 12:00 hrs ascent to the summit of South Ridge behind the renowned Waterfalls. A brief, but medium-difficult and fast walk over the River Waimea down to the Waimea Valley. Approx. 2 mile, intermediate walk, from 7 years (must be supervised by an adult).

From 9 am to 1pm, North Valley Hiking - Explore Waimea's North valley from the ridge to the bottom of the valleys, cross local pouches and discover the bird life of the area. Approx. 6 mile, moderately to exhausting walk, from 7 years (must be supervised by an adult).

The South Ridge Loop Trail - 9:00 - 14:00 This demanding walk links the South Valley with the North Valley of Waimea. Breathtaking vistas of Ka'ena Point, Kaiwiko'ele and Waimea Falls. This walk can include several sliding brook transitions and sharp ascents, from 12 years (must be followed by an adult).

Kamanananui Stream Trail - 9:00 - 14:00 The most demanding path in Waimea. 6-plus mile, climbs, from 12 years (must be supervised by an adult).
