Allyn Kauai Hawaii Teri & Allyn's Hints
It is a really charming place and one of our favourite places. We' re happy to be able to help you with it and we trust you will find this guidebook useful if you want to do so. This is a guidebook to the places and things we would like to do (or would like to do) on Kauai.
The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook is recommended for a complete tour guides. When you are in Southern California or San Francisco Bay, American Trans Air charter services are available from LAX and SFO to Oahu, Maui and Kauai, often the lowest fares available. Collect the brochures "Kauai Gold" or "This Week on Kauai" at the Aiport.
Don't miss the dining brochures, they often have great cards and meals. It is one of the things we look forward to every time we come to Kauai, to get up in the mornings and take a stroll on the water. Sands on the east bank are rough and golden, very different from those on the continent.
Kauai has three large resorts: one in the south, one in the east and one in the north. Favourite is the Grand Hyatt Kauai (formerly Hyatt Regency Kauai) in Poipu on the south bank (see below). We have never slept in one of these places before, but we are planning to spend the night in the Hyatt one day (indeed, on our next visit!).
It' great to visit the marvellous hotels (we've all seen them) and have a drinks in one of the pubs or in one of the restaurant, which you can do even if you're not a visitor to the reserve. We have two big corporations that make the dirty-colored shirts:
They are usually found on the same frames as the "Kauai Gold" brochures. Haena is a large, arid cavern that is the simplest to explore. Ke' e Beach is located at the end of the street at the northern bank, at the northern end of the Na Pali coastline. It is Teri`s favourite snorkeling spot on Kauai.
Kalalau Trail, which starts at the Ke`e beaches, is awarded 10 by the Sierra Club. If you are less adventure -oriented, there is a somewhat secluded path that follows a cliff face at the western end of Ke`e Strand. We began our trip at the Kajak Kauai in Hanalei. Kayaking down the small creek of the Hanalei, we soon followed the major canal.
We went down to Hanalei Bay (in the very gentle surf), where we kayaked around the cliffy point where the Princeville Resort is located, and on to Hideaways Beach. The best place to watch the sun set is from the grass of Princeville Resort, although the last times we were there they parked a car on the grass.
Hanalei is one of the most attractive small cities in Hawaii. The Cafe Hanalei at Princeville Resort has the best views (of Hanalei Bay), so leave during the afternoon or at sundown. It rained and we came to Princeville Resort. Also at Princeville Resort, the Living Room Lounges have a nice outside patio.
From here we observed the sundown during a recent trip, while on May we sipped tais and had tasty starters (called pupus). The Bubba Burgers in Hanalei is almost an institute. This is where we always end up when we go to the old Hanalei school. Zelo's Beach House has good meals. It is known as the cooler and more humid part of the isle.
Princeville is the most important resource in the Nordic region. It overlooks the beautiful bay of Hanalei and has one of the best panoramic view of the Isle. The Kauai Museum has not yet been to us, but Allyn's family has. There' s a large mall in Kauai, the Kukui Grove Shoppingmall just outside Lihue.
In Kapa`a only a few min. from the Courtyard Kauai at Waipouli Beach. We' dined here three nights during a recent trip. Two Bubba Burgers locations: one in Hanalei and one in Kapa`a. We had dinner several meals at Hanalei. Situated" halfway" around the isle, it is easily accessible in both the south and northeast.
We' been to the Kauai beach villas a few time. These are older condo/timeshare characteristics right on the shore just North of Lihue. It is a large building, but they have three "beach promenades" with one- and two-bedroom apartments with cuisine. It' s a rather sparse décor, but being so near the shore is quite a buzz.
During our last trip we visited the Kauai Coast Estate at Beachboy with some of our mates. I think we were very much struck by this place. The building here is vertical to the sea, so most of the unit are not directly on the sea. Kauai Marriott is the largest holiday destination in the East.
Kauai Marriott also has time sharing sessions for Marriott's Vacation Club members or time sharing dealers. Doing this would be our second best home resort as we believe as it is stuffier than the Grand Hyatt it is less muggy than the Princeville. Kauai Marriott's Headquarters is the highest structure on the isle.
The Grand canyon of the Pacific is a spectacular and beautifully shaped one. Our first trip was a coach trip and that was a complete wastage. During a recent stopover, the street behind Kalalau was blocked and it was a long walk on the blocked street to reach the "lookout point behind Kalalau".
EAT...... Ilima Terrasse, Grand Hyatt, Poipu - buffet place with outstanding facilities. Favourite place on the isle is the Grand Hyatt Kauai (formerly Hyatt Regency) in Poipu. That is by far the best guide we found on Kauai. So if you only buy a Kauai travel guide, it should be this one.
Ultimate Guide Book above has one for each of the other large hawaiian isles.
