A breathtaking island measuring only five by eight kilometres, Norfolk Island is the perfect destination for a relaxing holiday. Stylish Georgia style edifices, many of which are still in use today, recall the island's 19 th centurys penitentiary colonial past, and the World Heritage-listed Kingston and Arthur's Vale Historic Area is a good place to find out about this particular age. Later Norfolk Island was populated by 194 Pitcairn Islanders, who were part of the Bounty mutiny by Fletcher Christian and others, and the family name Christian is still one of the most frequent mentions on this area.

Pitcairn dialects, a blend of old West Country English and Tahitian, are still used by some of the island ers, while the giggling of the threatened Norfolk Island Greens is another indigenous noise to watch out for.

Mountaineering and bush walking are a great way to explore the breathtaking surroundings of the island. Angling is also a favourite with catchers such as trumpeters, tunas and kingfishers. The island hosts a number of competitions and festivities throughout the year, among them a number of international competitions, as well as several musical events.

Norfolk Island has over 35 restuarants serving a wide variety of food, from a la-carte dinning to Norfolk Island's local food and barbecues. Now Norfolk Island is a very favourite tax-free place to go to go to - many people only come to the mall. The island has around 77 Taxpayer Free Stores, which offer buyers enormous deals without revenue, companies, GST or VAT.

It has a large selection of specialist shops selling goods from all over the globe and the street is located in the centre. Norfolk Island can be reached by air from Sydney (2 h 30 minutes), Brisbane (2 h 10 minutes) and Auckland (1 h 45 minutes).

Renting a vehicle on the island is inexpensive and usually only a small one is needed to cover the necessary distance. The island has a wide choice of accommodations, especially in view of its small geographic area. There are also several meeting rooms on Norfolk Island.
