We have a welcoming, supportive and knowledgeable team who can help you make the most of your stay here at Stewart Island/Rakiura. In front of the visitors center, our sculpture shows the mythic origins of Stewart Island/Rakiura. The Maori myth of the great cetacean, Kewa, who chews through the vast expanse of land to divide Stewart Island/Rakiura from the land and create Te Ara a Kewa (the path of Kewa), now known as Foveaux Strait.

Rakiura National Park Visitor Center is located on Main Road, Oban - 2 min walking distance from the airport and Fährterminal.

The Caution Zone is 300m up-country from the stretch between Lee Bay and Port William. In this area, NZ air-termination conduits are tested to combat predators. The information is only an indicator of stock available - reservations will not be approved and approved until all information and payment has been made.

The calendar is refreshed once a week - more often if necessary.

Botswana Island/Rakiura area Great Wall

Prices are per head and per overnight for stays in cabins and camping sites on the Rakiura Rail. We do not charge for a full excursion on the route or entrance to Rakiura National Park. There is no reservation charge if you receive a rebate. Just before you go the Rakiura Track:

Choose whether you want to go counterclockwise or counterclockwise. Choose which cabins or camping sites you want to sleep in. Determine the date on which you would like to spend the night at each cabin/camping site. Please be aware that the max. length of staying at each cabin/camping site is 2 overnight stays. Please verify the availablility of cabins and camping sites on the desired date.

When there is no place in one of the cabins / camping places where you want to spend the night, think about it: Reserve cabins / camping pitches on-line or call a DOC visitors center for advice. Please note: Reservations are necessary for minors and/or youngsters, even if the holiday is free for them. When you make a reservation, you need to know the number of persons in your group and the number of camping pitches you need.

Booking transportation to/from the start/end of the course or to the huts/campsites on the course. You can do this without arriving on Stewart Island. Please refer to the booking rules for general information, ages, pricing, discounts, penalties and the guidelines for changes and cancellation. Reservations that do not meet the requirements are considered void and canceled.
