Viti Levu in Fiji
Fiji Viti LevuViti Levu Rural Guide Travelling in Fiji
Except for the Nadi-Lautoka passage and the settlement between Suva and Nausori, Viti Levu is very rustic, with only a few small villages along the coast street that surrounds the isle. The majority of these cities are located at the mouth of a river, which in turn connects the remote and rarely frequented mountain inland.
Excursions to Viti Levu can be made in two full working nights, either by shuttle service or hire cars, but a full day is highly recommendable to encounter some of the very welcoming personalities who will welcome you on the way. Increased enjoyment will allow you to leave the major streets to discover and walk some of the most scenic areas in the South Pacific.
Queens Road, the major road between Nadi and Suva, runs along South Viti Levu, a relatively well established area.
However, Fiji's most appealing town, Navala, and the country's highest point, Mount Tomanivi, are in the interior; the cheap resort of Nananu-i-Ra is off the coast. The East Viti Levu is the least populated area on the continent, still largely rainforest protected; its major feature is the scenic Tailevu coast, reached by a lonely field path.
