Argentina's BUENOS AIRES - The world' biggest international beverage company Starbucks opens its first beverage shop in Argentina on Friday. Situated in Seattle, the Argentinean company offers a cup of tea with "dulce de leche", a typical sweet fudge crème, and a milk y "mate" bar made from the famous tealice brew that is so much loved in Latin America.
The Starbucks Group already has cafés in seven countries in South America, among them neighbouring Chile with 25 branches and Brazil, which has opened 18 branches since 2006. The Starbucks Corp. President of the Americas Buck Hendrix said to the Associated Press that Brazil was a "good yardstick" for the expected economic upturn.
He warned that Starbucks would have to work really harder to beat the Argentines. By the end of the year, he is expecting to open up to four shops, as he was not worried about the historic instability of the Argentinean economic system, which has recently been plagued by high levels of headline price rises. Lower US gains have compelled Starbucks to look abroad and Argentina is part of this expansion policy.
