Everyone knows Fiji and Tahiti, but the South Pacific is a great place where never-ending isles have their own styles and characters. Are you interested in escaping the South Pacific? There is no town on the Samoan island of Savai'i, just a jagged South Pacific coast with Polish towns where guests can sleep in open-air cabins known as fines and meet the natives for a typical ufu, a dish of seafood, pork and roots boiled under rock.

Nuku'alofa Island, in the Tongatapu archipelago of Tonga, is the contemporary home of the only surviving Pacific Polynesia state. It is still permeated by tradition and is home to huge antique Polish places such as Ha'amonga 'a Maui, the Stonehenge of the South Pacific. Whilst the Hawaiian islets are some of the most popular in the Pacific, not all are known.

Molokai, a satellites island of Maui, is a place where visitor can exchange resort and torch-lit luau for empty sandy beach and unspoilt landscapes. At the eastern end of this island lies Papua New Guinea, the city of Rabaul, which lies on a shallow cove with two volcanos on both sides.

At the same apogee in 1994, they buried the city like the Pompeii of the South Pacific. In the Marquesas of French Polynesia, this island was the last rest place of the painter Paul Gaugin, who painted these virginal islands. An isolated island, Hiva Oa has remained largely untouched since Gaugin's day, and tourists can get lost in mythic jungle where falls plunge 1000ft. into vulcanic crags.

Being the smallest sovereign country in the hemisphere, it is a different kind of Pacific island. The island is surrounded by a cliffy coast instead of sandy whitewashed shores, where coral grows to the rim of the waters and lime stone caverns penetrate the oceanic crags. Lord Howe Island is located in the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand and is a UNESCO Heritage Site, where only 400 people are permitted to visit at any one visit.

Yap, the island of Micronesia, is the centre of the Yap island range, which comprises 134 inhabited island and athells. A secluded South Pacific station loved by diver for groups of mantas gathering in the off-shore waters.
