The Swede Daniel Solander was a native of Sweden who worked in the Endeavour as assistant to the botanist under Banks when Captain Cook was mapping Australia's eastern coastline in 1770. At the very moment when the British were getting ready to colonize the Botanical Bay, the government of Gustavus III of Sweden approved Wilhelm Bolt's suggestion for an equal colonization in Nuyts Land (South Australia). Essén, Wilhelm Bolts and the Swedish Colonization Plans in Asia, Bijdragen vor vaderlandche Geschiedenis en Oudheidkunde, 7 (6), 1935, pp. 83-101.
