Marquesas Keys is an archipelago of about 20 km (32 km) east of Key Western, 4 km (6 km) in length and largely surrounded by mangroves. The Marquesas are an unregistered area of Monroe County, Florida and are part of the Lower Keys Census County Division[1] They are part of the Keyest National Wildlife Refuge[2] The Marquesas were only used by the army for shooting exercises in 1980.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the total surface area is 6.58 square kilometers (exactly 6,579,703 square meters), the surface area 0.17 square kilometers (165,744 square meters), which corresponds to a total area of 6.75 square kilometers (6,745,447 square meters), whereby areas of open ocean waters are not counted, but small inland ponds on the Keys.

They are part of the Florida Keys, separate from the remainder of the Florida Keys, which lie further eastwards, through the Boca Grande Channel, which is 6 mile (.7 km) across, to Boca Grande Key, the most westerly of the Mule Keys. Except the Dry Tortugas are further westward, 36 mile ('58 km) westward of the Marquesas Keys.

Rebecca Shoal is located six kilometres (10 km) westwards of the Marquesas Keys.

New Marquesas Keys Wildlife Management Area

Marquesas are a string of mangroves in the National Wildlife Refuge about 25 leagues westward of Keyest. Motorless and inaccessible areas are provided for the protection of breeding, eating and breeding animals and breeding tortoises. Around the three smallest islets a 300 -foot non-motor area will be built, around a mongoose islet a 300 -foot non-access buffers area and in southwestern Tidebach an no-wind.
