Kiwi Spotting Stewart Island

Kivi Spotting Stewart Island

They really are the best way to do the Kiwi tour from Halfmoon Bay. Kivi spotting and bird watching. The best way to see Kiwi and Kakapo - Stewart Island Forum

There is very limited accessibility to this island. On the other hand, we fly to Mason Bay, spend the day in a Mason Bay cabin, 3-4 hours walking distance to the freshwater jetty and a return to the city by canoe. Air and sea taxis can be arranged for private use and anyone can sleep in the cabin for $5 per person per day.

A flight to Masonay can be very cheap for a group of four or more. If I don't reach the required number of participants, I don't think this trip would take place in Hibach. But I didn't do this trip. I used to share the cabin with the group. It' possible to run from the city to Masonay for 2-3 nights, but the route over Thomson Ridge is rugged, steep and slushy.

It is susceptible to floods and knee-deep from year to year. It can be a good holiday season in July, as there are often long periods of good rain, which can lead to severe shivering. It' s unlikely to be snowing, as Stewart Island snows on average about a single night a year and probably does not reach ocean-height.

There''s kiwi on the Rakiura circuit, but unlike the North West Circuit, most folks don't see it. Kiwis have been seen in Port William and North Arm lodges on occasion. Well, the best place to see them is about 1.6 km from North Arm Lodge towards Port William by nocturnal.

Make a good landmark with plenty of kiwi during the afternoon with your own navigation system and come back in the evenings. Many footsteps, sounding hole, large feces and springs are signs of strong kiwi acid. For me the route between Long Harry Hutt and the old Long Harry Lodge is the best place to see Kiwi.

The last I was there, I saw 10 different kiwis in 30 mornings. The majority of humans do not have the necessary resources, tools and experiences to get there securely. It' Mason Bay isn't where it used to be. There are no lightning shots, no rustling, no holding on the rails and no approach to the cetaceans.
