The tree has a palm-like appearance or a trunk with a pompon on top.

Rhopalostylis is very similar to the Nikau palm, Rhopalostylis sappida, but has a slightly less bellied crown shaft, a shorter stem (in contrast to none at all), much more purple-red colour in the rachis/petioles and a trend that the sheets bulge more. Usually it is a less sturdy palm, but in growing Nikau palm trees can be both thin and sturdy, according to climatic and irrigation requirements.

ova is also one of the few palm trees that do not thrive well in warm, damp environments (though some saw doing OK in Hawaii in dark shadow on raised ground) - especially southern Florida. Outstanding palm tree however for the sun.... more California reading. I' ve had several of them and they are very decorative palm trees.

Do not have large palm trees for full domestic warmth, though.... best to keep out of the afternoonsun in most areas except along the coastline.

located on Kermadec Island, Norfolk Island, is a native palm tree variety, Kermadec natur (N.Z. only), Kermadec bikau is 12 meters high or more. Initially the fruit is verdant, turns light scarlet when mature and is a favourite dish of the Norfolk Island Parakeet, which is threatened with extinction.

It is said to have tastes uncooked like a hazelnut and cooked like an artisan base. Rhopalostylis grows much more quickly than New Zealand's Rhopalostylis azapida. There' s a Rhopalostylis farmer who is on the remarkable 2002 treelist next to the Cricket Pavilion in Pukekura Park.

R. Baumeri is grown in the south of the country outside its habitat on the New Zealand continent as a fast expanding variety to the otherwise similar R. Sappida, the Nicau palm, the only other variety of the Rhopalostylis family. On the shores of the south-eastern Azores and Madeira, the north of the globe has outstanding crops that provide a climate similar to that of the kind.

It is also cultivated in the open air in the coasts of California, Hawaii, Portugal, Spain, the Canary Islands and parts of the Mediterranean (e.g. Palermo, Italy). It is a ploughing palm, it has saxophone-style roots (it has a heel), hold the upper third of the foot above ground level!

Latin, verbatim "club style".
