Melanesian Missions is playing a pivotal part in the development of partnership between the Anglican churches of Melanesia and the UK. From a historical perspective, the Missions would deploy UK missions to work with the local community for years. Today, twin-winning is a big for the Melanesian Missions.

The dioceses of Chester, Blackburn and Exeter are connected to the school network all over Melanesia. This charitable organization allows Melanesian community coworkers to live, believe and experience with a British public. Also we can provide internships / work placement for British community employees in Melanesia. There is much to be found in the young and lively Melanesian people.

Solomon Islands and Vanuatu make up the largest part of Melanesia. It is a geographical concept (meaning "black islands") for a part of the South Pacific island area to the western part of Polynesia ( "many islands").

Melanesien is located eastwards of N.Australia / southeast of Papua New Guinea / westwards of Fiji. Vinuatu lies just outside the Solomon Islands and just outside New Caledonia. In Melanesia it's always warm and quite soaked. The city is a little colder than the Solomon Islands because it is further away from the Eq.

Solomon Islands are about as far southwards from the equator as Singapore is northwards, but it is much warmer in the Solomon Islands because there is very little climate control (and much less electricity). The Solomon Islands and Vanuatu are following the Aussie schedule, so their long vacations last from December to early February.

That means that in July there will be a meeting of local colleges and a trip near the start of the UK summer break will be a hands-on proposal for schoolteachers. Both the Solomons and Vanuatu are members of the Commonwealth. The Solomon people number around 600,000 and are increasing at a rapid pace. It has 6 major isles and about 900 other islets.

The French is still a local currency in the city, but it is becoming less and less used. Vinuatu is a country with its own chairman. In Honiara, the British High Commissioner is also registered in the city. The city is wealthier than the Solomon Islands and its per head GNP is about 30% higher. These include most dried goods and clothing stores.

It' s a 24 hour journey to Vanuatu or the Solomons from the UK. Brisbane has almost daily departures to Honiara and Port Vila. A number of Singaporeans are flying to or from Singapore via Port Moresby in PNG to reduce the need for visa requirements. The flight between Honiara and Port Vila lasts about 2 h.

A one-way trip to Brisbane is about £600/700, but Brisbane to the Isles is £200 or more. The price for a combination fare for both destinations is approx. 1,500 / 2,000 (excluding the charges for domestic flights). Taxi services are very inexpensive and secure for travel in Honiara. When you are transported outside of Honiara by road or road, it is good to buy it.

Inter-island traffic is time-saving but costly. It will be difficult in reality to keep up with that for many trips when you have to move. There are many short trips between the archipelagoes, i.e. with large outboards that can take up to 10 people.

Travelling often starts very early in the mornings, shortly after sunrise, which can help you get the most out of the workday. British nationals do not require a visa to travel to the Solomon Islands or Vanuatu for less than a year. Clothes are not elegant for men or a woman. Use long pants for work in Honiara or Port Vila / Luganville; not too tight pants are accepted at other time.

A lightweight jumper for evening outings or boating, even in Solomons. In Vanuatu it is colder, so a lightweight pullover is useful in the evening. In the Hyundai Mall next to the Honiara store there is a new west facing chemist's shop selling basic medicine and sauces.

Importing goods is costly, but domestic products - and also taxi services in Honiara - are very affordable by comparison internationally. In Honiara, the price of shelters, cafés and many goods has risen over the last 8-10 years due to the effects of the expatriates from Australia and other expatriates who came with the rami helpers.

The village inhabitants at the seaside are catching and eating a lot of seafood, but mostly not in sufficient quantity for e.g. school. An astonishing amount of preserved Tunas is consumed - usually by tunas fished around the island but re-imported abroad after the can. At Tulagi in the Solomon Islands there was a Japan Japan based JV in the lat 1970', which did not go on.

Vanuatu has a high-value veal production sector, some of which are even export to Japan. Also dengue fever has become more frequent, especially in the Solomon Islands, and there are no preventive drugs. However, it is advisable to be cautious outside the major areas or after nightfall.

Taxi services are secure in the city, but it makes sense to arrange the fare in advanced (about 10 dollars in Honiara for brief trips). In Honiara, the greatest danger is to fall into a hole in the sidewalk. In Honiara, getting drunk and drunk in the street have become a recent issue, but most people are unlikely to be affected if it makes sense.

There are several restuarants (Chinese and two Indian) in the centre of Honiara on or near Mendana Avenue, as well as restaurant in the most important of them. In Honiara there are also some cafés - both expat-style and more locally - which usually shut at 5 pm. Dining in Vanuatu is more demanding in both Port Vila and Luganville, with a selection of world cuisine.

There are inns in the capitals outside the capitals, often run by the Mothers' Federation. Chester House in Honiara provides lodging for all visitors (including some tourists) and has several air-conditioned rooms.

The St. Agnes Rest House, at Mothers Union HQ in Honiara, is another good option to the more costly HQ. The English standard is the formal English of the office and high school. The Pidgin English (or Bislama in Vanuatu) is very common, and you may be able to guesswork a few words in it, but not enough to get much!

The majority of the population speaks at least one other country isle. English grammar and grammar precision are decreasing, even in school. Answering e-mails is an under-developed ability of the Solomonauts. Honiara's ocean is not very'beachy' and quite dirty. The Heritage Park Honiara has a good Swimmingpool, which non-guests can often use if they look reasonable.

There are good scuba dive sites and many great sandy spots in the Western Province, near Gizo, in the Solomon Islands, with some Eco-Lodge-style accommodations. Institutions like these are much less advanced in other parts of the Solomon Islands. There are many more resorts and some good eco-lodges and scuba dive sites in Vanuatu.

The number of crrocodiles in some parts of the Solomon Islands has risen since the policemen took away their weapons after the ethnic tensions: wise to ask. Solomons and Vanuatu both use three-pin quadratic power outlets with the lower couple slanted. Fast and GSM connectivity is sluggish in Solomons. iPhones and texting usually work, but it's best to take an old unblocked cell and get a real estate smart cards if you want a real estate telephone number.

FaceTime and Skype work from Honiara, but can be irregular. Larger academies in AchoM have their own Wi-Fi wireless signal, but the web and wireless penetration is otherwise thin outside the center of Honiara. Speed and connection are much better in Vanuatu, but it is a good idea to use Wi-Fi for all your phone conversations, as landline and mobiles are very costly (in both countries).

In the centre of Honiara there is always enough energy available, although there can be many outages. Out of Honiara many of them have alternators, which are often switched on between 6 and 9. They can top it up with pounds sterling or other important currency and cash at an ATM in national currency or use it as a regular credit or debit cards for a restaurant or hotel.

You will find several ATMs in the center of Honiara and in Port Vila and Luganville. The Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACoM) is far more predominant in the Solomon Islands compared to what is officially believed. However, the other cults in the Guadalcanal and the major archipelago are gaining quite a lot of ground, which makes the present decade of evangelism and renewal, as initiated by AccoM, so important.

Ecclesiastical communion is very important because its scope is still far greater than that of governance, as we can see from the response to disasters. At Vanuatu, the traditional way to get behind the Roman Catholics and the Presbyterians was to get ahead of the Presbyterians, but in recent years ACoM's numbers have outstripped those of the Presbyterians, who were more frequent in Efate.

Initially most prevalent on the Vanuatu Island North - Banks and Torres - ACoM's position is much greater across the state.
