Politics for expedition participants of the Antarctic Department who travel to Macquarie Island on tour boats รข Australian Antarctic Department

In recent years, AAD quarantining has proved very efficient in order to minimise the risks of the introduction of alien fish on Macquarie Island. The AAD continues to focus on the prevention of the resettlement of vertebrates and recognizes the threats of invading other invertebrates and wildlife following the Macquarie Island insect control program's successful outcome.

A number of weeds exist on the sub-Antarctic isles of New Zealand, which are not currently known to be found on Macquarie Island. In order to make sure that AAD exporters who travel to Macquarie Island via New Zealand's Sub-Antarctic Island pose the least possible risks of importing non-native varieties from other Sub-Antarctic Island, the following process has been designed.

Expedition participants traveling to Macquarie Island will receive two clothesets, one for Macquarie Island exclusivity (including the Survival Bag) and one for use on the sub-Antarctic New Zealand isles. This second kit is called Tourist Clothing Template and consists of: 1 x pairs of pairs of socks; 1 x pairs of rubber boots; 1 x external trousers; 1 x external coat.

On New Zealand's sub-Antarctic isles only Tourist Shirt Outerwear, ankle shorts, ankle jackets and jackets from Tourist Shirt Template are allowed to be wore on land and must be thoroughly washed ( "cleaned" incl. rubber boots) and inspected for seed, mud or reproduction on returning to the ship. The middle class clothes included in the erythropocket may only be carried on land on NZ Island if they are carried under the tourist clothes.

Any garments and gear used on the sub-Antarctic island of New Zealand will be checked by the New Zealand Ministry of Nature Conservation or the Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Services agent on the ship and must be packaged in the appropriate pouch separate from any other garments. Upon arriving on Macquarie Island, expedition participants must carry their Macquarie Island clothes on land as exhibited by the AAD (Red AAD Survival Bags must always be carried).

Upon arriving on Macquarie Island, the hand luggage of all expedition members, which includes the red survival bag and the tourist clothing bag, must be presented to the nominee biosecurity officer for check. Tourist-clothing template may not be used on Macquarie Island and will be picked up at the Biosecurity check point on your way back to Australia on the following AAD trip.

Expedition participants travelling back to Australia on tour boats can use the Tourism Clothing Template for their journey back. It will be returned/issued to the expedition member on the date of the expedition from Macquarie Island.
