Is Auckland on the North or South Island

During both winters we were in New Zealand and travelled, so the South Island was no longer a big city. Queenstown, Wanaka, Milford Sound and Tekapo were all nice and not too cool at this season. The journey to the South Island is simple. From Auckland you can either take a flight or the boat from Wellington.

While Hobbiton is on North Island, Middle Earth is mainly South Island if you are a The Lord of the Rings aficionado. When you ask yourself: "North or South Island? "I strongly suggest you stop at least at Hobbiton if you are a big fans of the films and then explore Middle-earth.
