Bora bora, September 4, 1849'[Society Islands]

The Bora Bora is an islet in the Society Islands of French Polynesia, about 230 km northwest of Tahiti, and it is encircled by a lake and a barriere islet. At the center of the isle are the remains of an extinguished lava that rises on two summits, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu, the highest point at 727 meters (2385 feet).

It is better expressed in terms of the name Pora Pora, which means "first-born", and early transcribed in the West it is also called Bolabolla or Bollabolla. Vaitape is the principal town on the west side, under Mount Pahia, opposite the principal canal through the outreef.
