avu is a city in the Fijian province of Cakaudrove. Situated on the southern shore of Vanua Levu Island, the city had 3,372 inhabitants in the 2007 federal government survey. The Savusavu is known as "the secret Fiji paradise". "Savusavu is on Fiji's north island of Vanua Levu.

You can reach it by airplane from Nadi (one hour) or by boat from Suva or Lautoka (about 12 hours drive). It' s known for its warm water sources, most of which are opposite the Hotel Hotsprings - although at low tide you can see the vapour from many smaller vents along the foothills.

At the end of the nineteenth centuary, these warm sources were transformed into 12-18 metre high gears for a two-month time. Copra Shed Marina, built in the nineteenth centuary, is an important symbol of Savusavu. Recently restored by Geoff Taylor, a Geoff Taylor of Savusavu, it now hosts the Savusavu Yacht Club.

The Savarekareka missions, 10 kilometers south of Savusavu, is another important symbol. It is the first of Vanua Levu's missions to the Romans and Catholics. It was erected around 1870 and is still in operation today. The Savusavu was founded as a trade center for sandal wood, Beche-de-Mer and Kopra and is the location of a large Kopra mill.

There are a number of resort establishments in Savusavu, some of which have interesting cuisine. The Namale Resort regularly holds workshops in the Tony Robbins Life Mastery Program; the Jean Michel Cousteau Resort is one of the few 5-star resort to provide a children's campsite; the Daku Resort offers a year-round program of arts, Yoga, snorkeling and bird watching classes.

Bird watching tours visit the unique silk tail that can only be found on Vanua Levu Island, about an hours and a half from Savusavu. It has been geologically investigated that the warm sources of Savusavu could produce enough energy to supply the whole island of Vanua Levu. The Savusavu area has a large number of plots of ground, much of which was once used as coir plantation.

Savusavu is thus home to a small but important group of Americans, Australians, New Zealanders and Europeans who have contributed to it all. Savusavu was founded in 1969 as a city and is ruled by a nine-member city councilor, who is appointed for a three-year period of office. After the Savusavu Ratepayers and Citizens Party won the local election on 22 October 2005, Ram Pillay was voted mayor in place of Peni Naulu of the Lighthouse Party.
