RANO, released in 2010 1, are used to evaluate responses to first-line therapy of glioblastomas (and inferior astrocytomas 3 ) and have largely replaced the older Macdonald criterions (which only addressed multiform glioblastoma) 2. RANO criterions, similar to other regimens (cf. As the number of novel active ingredients and drug administration technologies researched in preclinical studies increases, there is a great need for robustness and adaptability in monitoring responsiveness and defining outcomes.

RANO (Response Assessing in Neuro-Oncology) was established to tackle these and other issues related to the outcomes of neuro-oncology oncologists. In this section we provide an overview of RANO's work in updating the criterions for assessing reaction and end-point definitions as part of the basics of designing neurooncology studies across the entire range of neurooncology.
