There is a dense population of fishing in the sparkling turquoise waters of the lake, ideal for snorkeling and scuba-dive. Marquesas are a group of high islets about 930 northeastern of Tahiti. The mystic island of Nuku Hiva has many miracles of nature. Known for its rugged, unspoilt countryside, huge rock tikis, vast and eerie views, this magnificent and historical island is the last rest place of Jacques Brel and the painter Paul Gauguin.

It is the biggest island of Polynesia and provides amazing views, simple dives and some interesting and extraordinary dives. It is not known for its shores and is used as a first or last stop at the beach before going to the isles. However, it has some of the best dives in the world for simple dives.

The reason for this is the position of the diving spots on the western shore in the slipstream of the predominant east wind, which leads to quiet shallow waters with minimum current. There are some interesting or uncommon diving spots such as the freshwater wells. There are also some interesting topographies, with imposing cliffs with beautiful coral cover and a variety of colorful coral but often lacking the wealth of large sea creatures on some of the Outlying Isles.
