Every section starts with a basic monochrome painting showing how the snows fall and the heap on the floor gets higher and higher. It' unbelievably easy, but it increases the suspense and claustrophobicity that comes with the character's position - big fingers up from me, really ingenious! Apart from that, there are some other strengths of the book.

It' a warnin' to read - given the meteorological conditions as I type this and the way Northrop makes the fates of the character seem so likely if you're on edge, you might want to keep it till late last night before you try! If you' re looking for more stories of teenagers trapped in a circumstance where they have to live alone on a slightly bigger scales, Michael Grant's Gone set, beginning with Michael Grant's book Gone, of the same name, should not be overlooked.

Rae Villegas drove a lorry up a platform.... 1,800 ft under the ground... when he saw the rift and saw the powder for the first time. He was accustomed to extracting rocks from the north of Chile's brass mining so that he had often experienced the creaking and groaning of the furious world.

However, when he came up the platform, he felt a surge hitting his trucks, "like a dynamic explosion". About 1,200 ft down there was no street, and all around him he heard the sound of a moaning crag. There were six men who had been educated in dealing with mine disasters who followed the Villegas truck's path and dared to go down to see what had been happening to find who was trapped in the mine.

Featuring an exciting feature that allows spectators to take part in Puss' adventure by choosing features that make each scene as fun as it is. Though the selection is finite, each story is just long enough and vivid enough to keep you busy. Puss' reaction to the readers' votes also contributes to the pleasure.

The young audience will be able to experience the silly qualities of the tales, which are full of fun scenes and sometimes humour in the bath. But, like its forerunner, Shrek, it contains jokes that make grown-ups laugh as they fly over children's minds. All in all, Puss in Book will cast a light spell over the children, and the show's interactivity will only make them more irresistible.
