Making Hawaii the Fiftieth State

On March 18, 1959, President Dwight D. Eisenhower was a signatory to the Hawaii Statehood Bill. President Eisenhower declared Hawaii the Fiftieth State on August 21. The first governor, William F. Quinn, was inaugurated the same date. On 24 August, Congress swore in the Senate Hiram Fong and Oren Long and the representative Daniel K. Inouye.

When the US Senate adopted the Hawaii State Hood Bill on March 11, 2008, it echoed. Hawaii's state identity law on Waikiki Beach was adopted by the US House of Representatives on March 12. The papers had strayed from specific state questions. During the June 27 referenda on state identity and the Honolulu Primaries, Republican Party laborers in Honolulu were celebrating the early leadership of James Kealoha, who later won the Lieutenant Governor's position.

On August 21, President Eisenhower unveiled the new 50-star flagg. Just a few moments after Hawaii was declared a state, William F. Quinn was inaugurated by the Supreme Court as governor, Masaji Marumoto. After the two were voted Hawaii's first senators in August, Hiram Long (left) retired for the full six-year mandate and Oren Long (right) for the four-year mandate.

21 August - Hawaii becomes the fiftieth state in the Union

Only four years after Troy Township cast a 9-1 vote for a hometown, Hawaii's U.S. residents took a big stand to become a state. Her reaffirmation was the last stage in the litigation to have Hawaii admitted as a fiftieth country.

It was ceremonially held at the White House on August 21, 1959. President Dwight D. Eisenhower sat at a long dinner with his Vice-President Richard Nixon and the spokesman of the House, Sam Rayburn. It was backed by elected members of Congress from the new state. President Eisenhower noted that this was a truly historical event, as two new States had been accepted into the Union during one year.

A new 50-star US banner, to be drafted, was also enacted by the President. Remark on history: Initially populated by Polynesians in the 8th c., the Hawaii Islands moved in the 17th c... Already during the Spanish-American War, the United States recognized the value of a Pearl Harbor Navy bases, and the US began the official process of US annexation. However, the United States did not recognize the value of a Pearl Harbor Navy bases.

On the occasion of the city of Troy's sixtieth birthday in 2015, we will be publishing a different history every single Sunday, highlighting a local, regional, national or even global phenomenon that took place between 1955 and 2015 that has shaped our life and our people. We' ll try to publicize histories on important jubilee events, but we also find that data is less crucial than contents and pop-up.

We' ll record the facts of conflicting tales and give our readership the opportunity to make up their own minds. You are invited to tell and annotate the tales. Alternatively, you can send your story or idea by e-mail to the 365 Story Editor: ed@thvmail.org.
