The Waimanalo Bay Recreation Area is a place that' s not often frequented by visitors, which has one of the Oahu beaches, leaving you in reverence for the fact that you had no clue that it was there. Wuimanalo Strand on a sun-drenched coastline is breathtakingly beautiful, with bluish green water and mileage of the smoothest whitest sands your feet will ever be touching!
The prehistoric Oahu comes to your minds when you enter the Waimanalo Bay Recreation Area. It was done on a week-end where more people want to spend the night on the beaches! Do not confuse this rural Oahu Strand with the near Waimanalo Park (which is also very beautiful), together with its northerly neighbour, Bellows Park, is one of the unexplored pearls of Hawaii.
Collectively, they form a 3 miles long, unspoilt promenade. The Lani Kai and Kailua beaches have a tendency to get all the fame, but the tranquil Waimanalo Bay has the same magic upwind. It is usually not overcrowded and is one of Oahu's untouched beauty that has hardly ever been spotted by any tourist.
On the south-east edge of Oahu, Waimanalo is generally known as Paniolo (rancher/cowboy). There' s a good possibility that you will have this beautiful sandy area to yourself if you drive during the week - which certainly increases the element "OMG, I've just laned on a secure secured beach"!
You will be looking for an open trail that you can turn into with a small Waimanalo Bay Recreation Area sig. Remain in the square and leave your car in one of the two available car parks. Take your clothes and run 100 meters through the Ironwood Tree. It is one of the most popular beaches of my whole life, with its untouched bluish water, kilometres of smooth, powdered sands, a row of ironwoods, and an unbelievable views of the Ko'olau mountains.
Waimanalo Beach and Bellows Beach are always a place you can rely on to create small and entertaining ripples. Except the Oahu windsurfing review reports the southeast side shallow, this can be a place of enjoyment to dive into the sea, and bodysurf or bootie ashore. As a child I came to the Waimanalo Bay Recreation Area or the Bellows Beach Park with my little one.
But since most humans do not walk around with a flask of ammonia in their pockets, but have full blisters of....... amonia-rich bodily liquids, I am sure that you would be more than willing to do anything to relieve the burning pains of a Portugese warrior. Normally I combed the beaches to see how many Portugese warships were flushed ashore to estimate how many Portugese warships were swimming in the sea.
There are 2 ways to get to the Waimanalo Bay Recreation Area. Either take the picturesque H-1 Hwy road southwards around Makapu'u Pt and Waimanalo, or take Pali Hwy over to the Windward side and head southwards on Kalanianaole Hwy towards Waimanalo. One way or another, it's about a 45-minute ride to Waimanalo.
The journey by coach is a long arena to Waimanalo, but can be completed in about 1 to 1 hour. From Kuhio Ave, Waikiki you can either take the coach to Ala Moana Shopping Center and take the 57 that will take you over Pali Hwy, through Kailua and on to Waimanalo Beach.
From Kalakaua Ave, Waikiki you can also take the 22 or 23 line to Sea Life Park, where you have to change to the 57 Waimanalo line from there. Waimanalo Bay's most amenities are under the Ironwood Tree, off the beach. The Waimanalo Bay Recreation Area is situated on the east side of the wind, so that during a spectacular dawn the daylight disappears in the afternoons when the summer is over.
Take your meals and beverages to the beaches. Waimanalo Bay Recreation Area has no stalls for concessions or many other options. I' d recommend you take some comfortable meals, refreshments and beverages to the beaches. Dave's Ice-Cream, also nearby, on the Kalanianaole Highway in a small stripping kiosk where they offer a beautiful range of delicious tropic icecream and another famous goody - Hawaiian shavingis!
