What time do New Zealand's skiing areas open? From the beginning of June to the end of October you can go skiing or snowboarding, according to the situation and skiing area in New Zealand. Skifields on the South Island open mostly in front of the skifields on the North Island. The South Island skiing areas are generally open in early June and closed in early October, while the North Island pistes are open from the end of June to mid-October.

South Island resorts also tended to be less overcrowded than New Zealand's North Island resorts, although this does not hold true for vacation seasons.
