Oahu is home to the state' s vast populace, business engines, historical places and culture centres. It is not the biggest of the large islands of Hawaii, but makes up more than three fourths of the state' s people. As a rule, the large number of inhabitants is mainly found in the municipality of Honolulu, which is situated on the southwestern shore of the isle.

Honolulu is the whole of Oahu although the actual town is generally seen from the Pacific Ocean in the south, the Ko'olau Mountains in the north, the Kalihi Valley in the east and Kaimuki in the west. Housing in downtown Honolulu is usually flats or high-rise housing, while the rest of Oahu ranges from single-family houses to multiple dwellings.

The real estate value on Oahu is significantly higher than the state and far above the rest of the state. Districts ranging from affordably located on the north coast and in Pearl City to ultra pricey and sophisticated, like the towns of Portlock and Hawaii Loa Ridge.

A lot of real estate all over Oahu has breathtaking ocean view, especially high-rise apartments and houses on a higher level. Oahu's six hundred sq. kilometers cover the major business actors in the state of Hawaii, among them major tourism attractions, business neighborhoods and defense fortresses. Oahu is home to the biggest malls in the state of Hawaii, such as Pearlridge in Pearl City, Ala Moana in Downtown Honolulu and Windward Mall in Kaneohe.

Almost all well-known Oahu restaurateurs and merchants are present, from Macys, Costco, Outback steak house and Walmart to Wendy's, Sears and Target. Of course, Oahu is home to Pearl Harbor, historically known as the scene of Japan's first assault on the United States during the Second World War.

Today Pearl Harbor is a major touristic destination for visitors from all over the globe. It is also home to Hickam Air Force Base and the Schofield Barracks, which are anchoring the island's great defence profile. Together, the two biggest elements of Hawaii's economic development are the country's armed forces and agribusiness.

Touristic sights are one of the main reason why so many people come to Oahu every year. The touristic sights of the area vary from very famous sands to holes in the walls, often missed by occasional people. Almost everyone in the United States knows Waikiki Beach, a sandy stretch of beach on the south shore of Oahu bounded by world-class neighborhoods and a distinctive volcano craters known as Diamond Head.

A number of eateries, nightclubs and historic places are off the well-trodden paths in the outskirts and countryside of Oahu, and include old plantations and old stalls in the city. It is home to most of the Hawaiian state' privately-run colleges, among them Punahou, Iolani and Kamehameha.

Manoa, located in a southern Oahu basin, is the University of Hawaii's landmark city, UH-Manoa. UH Manoa is world-renowned for its traditional language and marine biology programmes, and the system of the University of Hawaii also administers three large Oahu based communal college. There are also part-time study programmes in the field of adulthood, such as Hawaii Pacific University, Chaminade University and Brigham Young University.
