40k: Combat Report - Necrons vs. Tau - 2,000 points
Imperius Dominatus with MERERCER here, a new fight I had again with Necrons. It is Poddy Necrons' first fight, so I'll tell him what's going on and help him if necessary, although he usually won't because he's such a grocer! If you look a little lower at Tau, my Necrons only have to be afraid of the railguns.
They will tear my Necron cars to shreds and it's not like I can get coverage from most of them. When I can move up the peloton and dispatch quick troops like Canoptek Wraiths, Canoptek Scarabs and Overlord to attack rail gun troops, I should be well. With the battlesuits and fire warriors behind it, he puts all his cars in the spotlight.
On the right in a ruins is a single Scout detachment and on the lefthand side in a ruins is another Scout detachment. The croot squad is placed in a ruined building on the far lefthand side, while the other croot squad serves as bubble wrap for the broadsides. If I had, I should have really used the rejected cross on the lefthand side and then gone up.
In fairness, I was too preoccupied with purchasing Assault Marines for my Red Fleas lists and just came back to the desk and threw my things down. There are two targets near Tau's area of operations, one at the ruins, where the scouts are on the south side and another in the ruins, where the croots are on the south.
I should be able to get the Scarabs for a round 1 load, Poddy used 12 from the side of the desk and so did I. I just wish he didn't move his cars too much. When I use the scarabs to handle a hammerhead shark with the overlord and then sends up the wraiths to attack the scouts and the stepping stone into the Broadsides, I should be fine.
I' ll use the Crypteks to blow up the Broadsides and hopefully destroy some by shoot. Pathfinders are moved to the right by Peddy Scouts so that they are more in the ruins and get better LOS. ODDY' s first move; he shifts most of his armor to the right and the battlesuits are following.
Croot in the lefthand ruins move down to bunkers and so LOS can not be pulled. Shoot; Poddy tries to fire everything, although the only things in reach are both Hammerheads - one will kill two Scarabs if the Scarabs get coverage and the other Hammerhead will miss and land on a Ghost Ark that does nothing to her.
The battlesuits leap away in the attack and are hiding behind the cars. Necron's first turn; Wraith's move and run into the middle part of the area. Scarab move and run, the Spyders spy two more (a Spyder gets a wound) before they move, the Scarabs maybe in the attack area, although I don't want them to get caught outdoors, so I go on the side of caution and put them in the middle to get some shelter.
Anything else will move up and the Triarch Stalker will run on the right side, while the command ship is just under 24?, i.e. over half the distance. Shoot. The Ghost Ark on the far lefthand side blows up and murders a lone boy scout. A triarch stalker on the lefthand side blows up a devil fish that can save with interruption capsules.
Extermination ships fire on the scouts or Hammerhead, scouts all do their rescues and nothing happens to the Hammerhead. Gaussian layers of ghost arks explode, but either do nothing or pod podes disrupt the rescue. Necron crowns approaching the dewline. Then I' ll take the Wraiths to the Scouts and attack them - this will make the Wraiths jump near the dew line so they can get the Broadsides.
Scarab beetles will attack one hammerhead while the overlord sweeps another. Barge will blow up the fleets, probably the croot air cushion foil, to pave the way for the wraiths and lances, while the other ship will thin out the scouts on the right side. 12? is moving back to the info gun line, while the other Hammerhead and the supportive Devilfish are only moving a little.
Different foreign fish movements, i.e. the croot on the lefthand side. Battlesuits are moving over to join the remainder of the base. Shoot; a rail gun from a hammerhead blows up my Scarabs, it disperses and strikes the Spyders, you take a sore. Broadside splits the fire, the teamleader blows up a Ghost Ark - all warriors are all right and passing the pin, while the other two Broadsides blow up the command ship that overcomes them.
Battlesuit blows up the Scarabs, I get coverage, but the immediate kill by plasm guns and rocket shells is not good, I loose several school. The Wraiths are blown up by leftover combat suits, croot and devil fish, one is slain and several each take a cut after everything has been said and done. During the attack the battle suits leap towards the mass of the battles.
Necrons: Spyder spy more Scarabs spawning to replace the missing Scarabs, the Scarabs move through the area and are undoubtedly in attack distance of the Hammerhead. Spyder follows through the grounds and the Wraiths move up to attack the scouts, warriors on feet to assist the Canoptek spyder. Residual vessels move up to come within reach, although the destroyer ship on the right side is holding down its positions to trigger a full stream of fire from the scouts.
When the Overlord Sweep strikes a Hammerhead while it moves and points with full force - this will stop it from firing and make it more vulnerable if necessary. Shoot; blow spears at the Broadsides and cross all coverages. The Triarch Stalker on the lefthand side blows up the devil fish and dazzles and immobilizes, the Ghost Ark shoots fast and uses the twin-linked effect, scoring only once more.
Looks like you got it. Looks like it. Anihilation barge in the middle firing electrical bolt on the croot and french fry three, I also automatically my wraths and a batch of battlesuits, though no harm to either units. Residual Ghost Ark trying to long reach Gauss of the Hammerhead the Scarabs will attack, I am hoping to immobilize it to car hits, although interruption makes the store.
Barge on the right side firing all guns at the scouts, I get 3 6+ for the Jesla destroyer and wiping out the whole squad - a battlesuit squad that supports the scouts also removes a cut, which the triarch stalker then distributes with the radiant warmth - the battlesuits are morally failing and jumping back from the game.
Attack; the wraiths load and tear the scouts and now deny the target the scouts were seated on, while the scarabs load the hammerhead, they cut it down to a5 on the back and turn it into a beach-boot! The Necron troops have struck the dew with some power.
Now the ghosts will be arks and warriors in fast firing ranges and both extermination ships can surge down a stream of fire. When Poddy puts them back in a line of fire to keep the necrons apart. I' ve dropped a Ghost Ark, which isn't too serious, and when the warriors took harm, both spirits were near enough arks to regenerate the warriors.
I also have the scarabs and wraiths on Poddy's front door and he will have to look at what should allow the remainder of my troop to move forward without a hitch. I' ll load the scarabs into the Broadsides and stop them shoot. When the Wraiths are alive, they will attack the immobilized Devilfish, while the Triarch Stalkers and Crypteks begin to blow up some combat suits.
The Overlord will be sweeping the immobilized and drugged hammerhead shark, while the Triarch Stalker will act as the first line of defense against the Devilfish, which will undoubtedly be sweeping down the flanks. He' s moving over the immobilized devilfish to blow up my triarch stalker into the realm. Battlesuit move nearer together and contract to remain out of the reach of fast fire.
Warriors of fire and Gundrones vouch for the immobilized devil fish. Shoot; It will take all combat suits, rifle dressers, fire warriors and the exhausted Kroot squad to bring the whole Warraith squad down to a lashing spool of Warraith - goody! Piranha shoots at the Triarch Stalker and fails.
Necron's third platoon; recently destroyed Ark fighters move up to fire some Croots to their deaths, the individual Wraith move out of the way to engage the immobilized Devilfish as the Triarch Stalker rises to assis-t. Scarab bees move through the grounds to engage the Broadsides while the rest of the troops ascend on foot in the middle.
The Triarch Stalker on the right side is moving to blow up the Devilfish as Overlord 6 at ? is moving and sweeping and destroying the hammerhead. Shoot; Triarch Stalker on the leftside blows up and blows up the piranha, while the other stalkers disturb the devilfish on the right. Anihilation barge on the right side is out of reach on the croot, the other not and firing all the guns and chips of the croot, warriors in the middle give their assistance and Gaussian unity with a singles croot links - he gives morality.
Fighters who just came from the Ghost Ark wreckage lances and quickly fire a Shas'El squad are abandoned to Shas'El, who is then speared and hanged by the last surviving Cryptek. The Wraith are shot at the Devil Fish in an attack, while the Scarabs loose the battle, but above all the Broadsides are tied up and keep them from firing for the remainder of the hand.
The Necrons struck the dew in this round and made a huge pit in the footlock. One Croat is left, Battlesuit units are gone and Broadsides are now trapped in battle. At the right side only one nasty devifish, which has to pass the guard Triarch Stalker and is chased by an overlord!
Scarab beetles go to work on the Broadsides. Necron controls the target (white dice) and only one Croat resists them. The Battlesuits and Fire Warriors will undoubtedly be supporting the next move. I made a beautiful leak in the Tau Corps thanks to the many roasted roots of the extermination ship and the Gaussian shells.
The battle dress uniform squad is gone, although there are three remaining and the Broadsides are trapped in battle. Then the Triach Stalker will move up and blow up the Devilfish while the Overlord comes from behind (ohh err) and sweep it. Additional fighters will rise to pronounce Gaus's demise while the Triarch Stalker uses the flame assault on Fire Warrior.
I' m going to get the Spyders to attack the individual Croat, that's exaggerated, but I' m going to take them near the Scarabs so that more Scarabs can be leached. Revilfish is moving the right side 12 down to the Triarch Stalker and the target I have will probably make target curve 5, maybe.
Shoot; all available troops shoot into the Warrior group, Poddy gets some poor die throws, like a troop with a simple rocket shell and a plasm gunshot - several warriors are beaten down and don't come up again, 25% are gone and the troop passed the moral test - that's it!
The Broadsides attack with a cut and the teamleader no longer has armor. Necron's turn; Overlord is moving 24 on his boat and sweeps at the devil fish and meets disconcerted. The other stalker is moving and running through the area, my suggestion was to challenge the Croatian target, but I'm not near enough.
Spyder move up to the attack of the Kroot, while the warriors move more into the ruins, which keeps one of the targets. During the attack, the scarabs are killing the teamleader and a broadside loses a cut, dew loses his moral and falls off the plank while the scarabs are consolidating in the area.
Spyder move up and remove the meat from each Croat, consolidating them to get coverage. The Triarch Stalker and Overlord have encircled the devil fish as my troops set off to fight or demand targets. The Necron Wars are holding the target with Canoptek Spyder and Scarabs assistance, these troops will counteract any dew coming near.
So I can safely say that the lower right target is in my pocket, when Tau comes out, they are attacked by Gaussian blowers, triarch stalkers and then by the overlord. The next move is to rave about a squad of battle dresses with scarabs and deploy the Spyders to attack another squad as the warriors descend on the Fire Warriors.
and the kroot will be burned with the flame assault. At this point the nightclub begins to shut down, from what I recall the fire warriors and rifle drone taking out the numbed devil fish and running down the flanks, they also run. Battlesuit blows up the Canoptek Spyders, one of them taking a cut while the remainder shoots the Warriors at the target, even though they're holding.
Necrons: I' m moving the Triarch Stalker upstairs to attack the target of the Kroot while the Undying move through the area and blow up the UAV. Had I had more spare times, the Scarabs would have loaded each battlesuit, Spyders another battlesuit squad, while warriors and extermination ships would have been firing on the remainder of battlesuits and firefighters.
Other triarch stalker would have shot the devil fish while the Overlord attacked the Fire Warriors, by the way he swept and murdered a fire warrior. Necron's by taking two targets and challenging one. The rail guns were only a menace in this match, as soon as they were shut up, my Necrons made it up without much trouble.
He was right on targets, shooting first at Scarabs, then at Wraiths and the Ghost Arks. The only error he made was to move the hammerhead and the devilfish towards the right side - he should have kept them together with the others and let me segregate them, he realized that when he withdrew the troops, although it was too latefor them.
and Salamander are a bad dream for my Necrons.
