Marquesas Islands are the jewel of Polynesia. Situated far from every single African country, they are a remote group of islands in the tranquil South Pacific. Hatutu, an islet in the North Group, has been declared a natural park and is home to several threatened wildlife and many of them are indigenous.

That means they are nowhere else in the whole wide globe like the Marquesan Dove and the Hatutaa Polynesia Warbler. Motu One and all the surrounding reindeer form the Motu One Reserve. It' s coastline is an important breeding ground for vulnerable marine tortoises, and the isle is a striking colony of seabirds.

Marquesan Islands have a subtropical atmosphere, with precipitation dropping on the southern and eastern sides of the islands, resulting in the lovely green of these areas. On the islands the mean temperatures are perfectly 79°C. It' s almost always good in the Marquesas, making it the ideal cruising location in the South Pacific!

Due to their isolation in the Pacific Ocean, the Marquesas Islands are home to various kinds of endemics (meaning they are nowhere else in the world). The Marquesan adventurous trip will allow travellers to see some of these wonderful, unique beasts. Several of these indigenous endemics are the Blue-footed Gannet (yes, its legs are light blue) and the Red-footed Gannet, various kinds of pigeons, two kinds of sandflies and the Marquesans Fulmar.

Marquesas Islands have few land animal species and most have been imported. Travellers can find wild boars, hounds and the Polyynesian rats, as well as the more frequent cows, ewes and geese. Marquesas water is home to a broad spectrum of sea creatures. Reforms are often seen in the water (much smaller for preys than humans!), and occasionally whales and the dolphin are often seen on one of the sand shores of Marquesas.

The majority of Marquesans work for the Catholic Church, the administration, the education system or for themselves. A lot of the island' s inhabitants make potteries, wooden works like Ukalele's and other handicrafts that they are selling to the tourist. Other people are engaged in breeding animals, which is an important part of Marquesan civilization.
