South Island Map of New Zealand Attractions

Attractions & Attractions map of Queens Town This is a map of downtown Queensstown with street-level details and suggestions for sightseeing and activities in and around the area. Queens own is a South Island New Zealand based community about 483 km from Christchurch, 282 km from Dunedin and 287 km from Milford Sound. More routes (and times) to and from Queenstown can be found on the South Island Routes page. The Queenstown area is a favourite traveler' s paradise that has become increasingly famous in recent years. Queenstown is developing more and more, and in a few years it has changed from a bustling small township to a bustling metropolis, so Queenstown is almost always in high seasons.

The Queenstown -Lakes area is home to about 28,224 inhabitants, so it is still a big metropolis compared to Christchurch. This is because there are several quick serve places like McDonald's, KFC and Burger King - something many other cities in the neighbourhood don't have.

Queenstown can be reached either by car or by plane. The journey from Christchurch to Queenstown lasts about 6 to 7hrs. There is no need to spend so much of your day on the streets by going to Queenstown because there is a small cosmopolitan airfield with Australian and New Zealand connections.

Situated in a hamlet known as Frankton, the international airports are about 8 km from the centre of the town. It is possible to get from the Aiport to the centre by coach, cab or private vehicle. You can take a coach from our office in the town. Taking a cab to the centre of the town usually costs between $20 and $30.

Or you can go yourself by hiring a vehicle and collecting it from the Aiport. No trains run to and from Queenstown. Read the New Zealand travel without a vehicle for information on how to get to Queenstown if you don't have a one.

Queenstown's major attractions are Lake Wakatipu, the Remarkables and other mountain and skiing areas in the area such as Coronet Peak, Cardrona and Snow Farm. You can visit Queenstown at any time of year, as Queenstown is almost always busy and/or offers many different kinds of activity.

However, my favourite holiday period in Queens Town is definitely the New Zealand New Year. The majority of visitors come to ski and snowboard in Sydney in summer, but you can do much more in Sydney all year round. Quinepstown is New Zealand's bungee diving capitol and the place for other adrenalin pumpin' activity like swingin' canyons and paraglidin'.

You can also book and begin many of Queenstown's outdoor pursuits, with action providers providing hotel and motel pickup services. If you don't have much free air travel, you can go to Milford Sound, take the ferry and then go back.

They all come with pick-up and return at the local Queens Town Hotels. When I went to New Zealand alone I did the Fly-Cruise-Fly-Tour and I must say it was great! You can also take a walk (e.g. Hill Time Walk) to the mountain and enjoy a magnificent view of Lake Wakatipu.

If you get tired of the city, you can take one of several tours of the city to see the stunning New Zealand countryside, or go to Wanaka and have the time. There are several sightseeing cruises from Queens Town, such as the Queenston - Kingston sightseeing cruise, the Queenston - Crownwell views cruise, the Queenston - Glenorchy views cruise or the views cruise to the Crown Range.

One can even go as far as a Central Otago, because it is not far away. Now you must go to the Google Maps website to see the map of Queenstown.
