Auckland has been pushed back to Fiji Airways due to mechanic problems

The FJ430 took off from Auckland at 7 a.m. and was due to depart Fiji at 10.05 a.m. but had to turn back. Fiji from Auckland was cancelled on Friday after a problem with an airline vent. Oneworld will join Fiji Airways (with a big catch)

The company already works with Qantas, Cathay Pacific and American Airlines in various functions. I' ve already mentioned how good it is to redeem Qantas points for Fiji Airways over the Pacific. It would be the natural decision if Fiji Airways ever joined a worldwide airline group.

It has 13 "full member" carriers such as American Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airways. Then there will be another 30 "affiliate members", mainly the local affiliates of full members such as Cathay Dragon and American Eagle. At the IATA Annual General Meeting in Sydney today, Rob Gurney, Chief Executive Officer of one world, said that Fiji Airways will be the first'Oneworld Connect' member to join one world.

What is Adobe Connect? Well, for most of our clients it won't mean much. For flights with Fiji Airways, Sapphire and Emerald members of all one world carriers have the option of checking in and getting on board first. It is Fiji Airways, which is a rather small company, the opportunity to make the full move to become an member of Fiji Airways without the high prices and terms.

With Qantas, American and Cathay already partners of Fiji Airways, their members may already have some of these advantages. However, it is good to have continuity between the programmes and certainly a great advantage for members of the British Airways Executive Club who have not yet had any of these advantages.

When you are not a member of one of the four sponsoring airline loyality programmes, you will not see much change. However, if you are an American, Cathay Pacific, Qantas or British Airways member, this is quite an exiting message and a natural addition to the uponeworld group. Wondering if we will see Aer Lingus as the next member of the Oneworld Connect, I think they would probably get a godparenthood from British Airways and Iberia because of their IAG holdings, they would just have to find another member to sponser them as well.
